We were saddened recently to hear of the passing of Sherry Havens, who has been advertising with us, non-stop, since the beginning of this publication 40 years ago. I've gotten to know Sherry pretty well during the dozen years that I've been with the Newsletter, and I will always remember her as upbeat, full of life, and smiling. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this sad time – she will be missed. On a different note, we are losing another long-time advertiser for a good reason – Tony Maglio, of Maglio Electric, is retiring. I've gotten to know Tony over the years, as we both served on the inaugural board of Crime Stoppers of Hunterdon County. We wish him well and hope he has a fantastic time with his newfound freedom. Also retiring is Kurt Feste of Window Expressions in Lebanon (and a former neighbor of mine), who has been advertising in this publication since well before I came to CTNL. Thank you Kurt – I hope y'all have a great time in your next chapter. And to the new owner of Window Expressions – welcome! Joining Victor Rotolo in his law practice is Tony Kearns, the former Prosecutor of Hunterdon County and a citizen who is well known for his commitment and dedication to making our county a better place to live. I became aquainted with him through Crime Stoppers, an organization he established (as well as many others.) You can read all about Kearns Rotolo Law on page 21 of this issue. We wish them all the best and hope to see them around town! As of this writing, the Omicron variant of Covid19 is raging through the country and the US has hit a record high for COVID-19 hospitalizations. The US is now averaging 700,000 new infections a day and, by the time you read this issue, cases are predicted to reach their peak with as many as one-million new cases per day. Two of my children had it over the holidays and, thank goodness, they got better with no lasting problems. Both tested positive 2-3 days before their booster appointments, but maybe they would have gotten it anyway. So far the rest of us seem, dare I say it, pretty healthy. Wouldn't it be nice if these Covid variants ceased once we've run through the entire greek alphabet? And here's a big thank you to my friends Sue and Faith, who brought us rapid Covid tests when none were to be found! On a different note, while some of you may be getting excited about the upcoming Super Bowl LVI (always the same number as my age) on the 13th, I'm excited for the next day – what I call it my own personal Super Bowl: Valentine's Day. You can see how much I love this holiday – filled with hearts and flowers – by looking at this month's cover. When wishing me a happy birthday recently, my daughter said, "I hope you have a sparkly-shiny-pink day!" (She knows me well.) I thanked her and replied, "I think that EVERY day should be a sparkly shiny pink day." (Don't you?) My husband and I stopped going out for dinner on Valentine's Day years ago. At this point in our lives, we're able to enjoy dinners from our great local restaurants every week, so we'll let the kids take over that Valentine's tradition on one of the (restaurant-wise) busiest nights of the year. For us, it will be a quiet, candle-lit dinner at home. And, after that, I'm ready for Spring! Have a HEALTHY, happy, sparkly, and shiny-pink Valentine's Day – and a winning Super Bowl Sunday!
