Sometimes it's difficult for them to get around. I live out of the area and I worry about what would happen if they fell or had a medical emergency and couldn't get to the door. Do you have any suggestions? Signed, Worried in Washington State Dear Washington, I certainly understand your concerns. There are many medical alert systems with fall detection which are available for purchase. Of course, this involves making the initial purchase and then, oftentimes, paying a monthly monitoring fee. Making sure your parents are equipped with a cell phone and ensuring they are in the habit of keeping it on their persons is also a great idea. The Hunterdon County Division of Senior, Disabilities and Veterans Services is a great resource for information and help (www.co.hunterdon. n j . u s / a g i n g / s e r v i c e s . htm). Finally, the Clinton Township Police offer a f r e e s e r v i c e t o o u r residents, called Operation Blue Angel (www.CTPD.org). The program consists of a lockbox, which will be owned and maintained by the Police Department, which will be placed on the participant's door by Police personnel. The lockbox will contain a key to the residence (which the resident must supply). The key will only be accessed by responding police officers in the event of an emergency where officers cannot gain access to the residence. Please feel free to contact me if this sounds like something that would help your parents!– Sincerely, Officer Raff Dear Officer Raff, My son is selling some old parts from his truck and is supposed to meet the buyers to give them the items and get paid. I have heard and seen so many cases of people being robbed or scammed when they tried to sell or buy something through social media, like Facebook Marketplace or the LetGo app. Is there any way to make the transaction safer for everyone involved? Signed, A Concerned Mom Dear Mom, You are absolutely right to be concerned; there have been some pretty scary stories of meet-ups gone bad in the news lately. Your son can check out this link: www.facebook.com/help /123884166448529/?helpref=hc_fnav for some great safety tips. Although this information is specific to Facebook Marketplace, much of it can be applied to LetGo and other platforms. In addition, we offer an Internet Purchase Exchange location at our Police Headquarters, which I encourage your son to utilize. It is a marked spot in our parking lot, which is on-camera. Oftentimes, just the mention of meeting at the police station is enough to deter anyone with bad intentions. Finally, anyone who is participating in this type of internet purchase should always follow their gut… if something doesn't seem right, walk away. Sincerely, Officer Raff n Officer Raffaella Vastola grew up locally in Kingwood Township, and has been in law enforcement for over 18 years, serving almost seven years with CTPD. She and her husband currently live in Raritan Township with their five children, two of whom serve in the military (Marine Corps and the Navy). Officer Raff thinks Clinton Township is a wonderful place to work, live and raise a family, and she is very proud to serve and protect our community with a dedicated group of men and women who help to keep it that way for everyone. n Do you have questions for our local Clinton Township Police Department? Ask Officer Raff by emailing: ctnl@comcast.net or: rvastola@ctpd.org and add the words "Ask Officer Raff" in the subject line.
