F o l l o W t h e s e t h r e e I m p o r t A n t s t e p s As more people return to the workplace following extended pandemic shutdowns, it's a good time to address what you need to do in the event of a work-related injury. 1. Report the accident – Immediately tell your employer about your injury and fill out a written accident report, keeping a copy for your records. File the report as soon as practical after your accident so as not to miss your state-mandated deadline. New Jersey allows 14 days for a worker to report an accident or work-related illness to their employer and two years to file a Workers' Compensation claim. 2. Keep records – In addition to keeping a copy of your accident report, record all significant interactions you have with representatives of your employer or your employer's insurance carrier. 3. Seek medical attention and follow doctor's orders – Have your injuries assessed and treated by a medical professional and request a copy of the medical evaluation and treatment plan for your records. Be sure to follow through on all prescribed treatments, an important step if you need to defend a Workers' Compensation claim later. The Bureau of Labor statistics show that in New Jersey 69,000 workplace injuries and illnesses were reported in the private sector and 20,500 in the State and local government sector for 2019. These numbers confirm that, despite safety procedures in place and precautions taken, accidents can and do happen. The most common work-related injuries involve sprains, strains and tears, especially in the back and legs, followed by repetitive motion injuries like tendinitis and carpal tunnel. Most workplace injuries can be attributed to overexertion, slip and falls, or being struck or caught up in job-related equipment. Staying alert, following workplace safety procedures and avoiding drug and alcohol use while on the job can limit your risk of injury. It's important to note that injuries attributed to drug or alcohol use would be excluded from coverage under Workers' Compensation laws. Work smart and stay safe! – Victor Rotolo y m C A S S i G n m A n A G e m e n t A G R e e m e n t Hunterdon County YMCA in New Jersey and YMCA of Bucks County in Pennsylvania will enter into a management agreement for YMCA of Bucks County to provide executive leadership to Hunterdon County YMCA. Under the agreement, Zane Moore, President/CEO of YMCA of Bucks County will lead the Hunterdon County YMCA beginning August 1, 2021. The boards of directors of both YMCAs separately voted to move forward with the agreement after several months of conversation between the two organizations. The conversations were initiated by Hunterdon County YMCA following the March 2021 retirement of their longtime CEO Bruce Black. An interim CEO, Robert Lomauro, is currently leading the organization. "After Bruce's retirement, we began thinking as an organization about the best way to move forward," said Lomauro, "Following an extensive period of due diligence, we feel that entering into this partnership with neighboring YMCA of Bucks County will lead our Y toward a strong future of growth and service to our community." The management agreement provides a unique opportunity for the two Ys, who already have a shared mission and commitment to positively impact lives, to explore the possible benefits of merging the organizations. Exploration will include assessing organizational alignment, shared resources and efficiencies, and opportunities for learning from proven practices. Following a period of due diligence, the boards of both Ys will evaluate whether merging the two organizations provides operational benefits and strengthens their ability to advance their mission. "This is an exciting time for both Ys and will provide us with a great opportunity to learn from each other and establish collaborative connections," said Zane Moore, President/CEO of YMCA of Bucks County. "Through this process, our goal is to strengthen both organizations, providing greater benefit and service to communities across Hunterdon and Bucks counties." Both YMCAs are charitable, nonprofit organizations committed to strengthening communities through membership and programs that foster youth development, healthy living and social responsibility for all. Together they serve over 70,000 members and participants annually through child care and camp, fitness programs, swim lessons, and team sports for people of all ages, incomes, and abilities. Each year they provide nearly $5.5 million of community impact in the form of financial assistance to individuals and families in need and free programming for veterans, cancer survivors, older adults and more. Additionally, they support members of the community through food programs, educational resources, blood drives, and community service projects. The service areas of the Hunterdon County YMCA and YMCA of Bucks County are located across the Delaware River from one another. For more information, visit: www.HCYMCA.org and www. YMCABucks.org.
