I am the new chairman of the Clinton Township's Historical Preservation Commission (HPC) and am excited t o r e i n t r o d u c e o u r c o m m i s s i o n , commissioners, and charter. For starters, the HPC reviews applications and plans submitted to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Construction Office to assist in the review of such applications and plans as they relate to the impact on historic structures, physical or cultural significant attributes. The HPC's comments are sent to the appropriate group, the Mayor and Council for consideration. W e a l s o d e v e l o p r e u s e / h i s t o r i c reclamation programs and provide r e c o m m e n d a t i o n s t o c o n t r a c t o r s , property owners and partner historical groups. We host an annual walking tour of one of our historic districts to educate the public on its significance to the community. Lastly, we participate in the Township's Community Day, sharing historical township information with our neighbors. Our commissioners volunteer their time and talent to help protect and share our Township's history. This is largely due to the destruction to the milkweed habitat along their migratory route. Abby Scher, Chair of the National Sierra Club Pollinator Protectors, will guide us through the steps we can take to plant gardens that attract the Monarch and how we can oppose the toxins that harm butterflies and other pollinators that are vital to our own health and food chain. Ms. Scher also serves as a Co-Chair on the Farm and Food Committee for the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter.
