Fungus toenails affect millions of people every day. A fungal infection can cause your toenails to become discolored, crumbly and flaking. If fungus toenails are not treated correctly they can develop into extremely painful, thickened, ugly toenails which make it very difficult to cut or trim. Millions of older Americans go to podiatrists every two months to have their fungus toenails cut and smoothed down. When your fungus toenails become this severe it is virtually impossible to treat or cure them. If your toenails look discolored or thickened, it doesn't necessarily mean you have fungal nails. There are many other treatable nail disorders which can mimic a fungal infection. Visual confirmation is no longer reliable. Once you see a change in your toenails, it is recommended that you visit a podiatrist right away. There's a new testing method for fungal toenails – your podiatrist will cut a small piece of the nail without any pain or discomfort and send it to the proper lab. Bako Diagnostics has created this new method in identifying fungus – it's called a genetic molecular test. This test can identify the genus and species of a particular fungus, yeast, mold, or spore. This method is 99% accurate. It can also diagnose what you have when you don't have a fungus. When the results come back to your podiatrist he or she will go over them with you completely and discuss all options for treatment for your nails. If treated early you can get a complete clearing of your nails. Treatment options range from doctor dispensed topicals to prescription oral medications. The pathology report will indicate which would be best for you. e V e r T h o u g h T a B o u T B e C o m i n g a V o l u n T e e r e m T ? n o w i S T h e T i m e ! As the COVID-19 pandemic has transformed all of our lives, many people have sought new ways to help each other. Joining South Branch Emergency Services could be YOUR way to make a difference. The need for volunteers is great, and all you need to fulfill that need is the heart to help neighbors who need emergency care, rescue services or hospital transit. If you have that heart, we will show you how to help. The training you will receive includes learning to protect yourself while helping others, covering everything from preventing the spread of viruses – including COVID-19 – to how to safely lift a patient. COVID-19 precautions, such as wearing masks, are observed during training and during response. You will also learn specialized CPR and first aid, after which you will qualify to assist EMTs on ambulance calls, gaining experience that will help prepare you for the EMT course and exams. From fear to – let's face it – a little boredom, this pandemic has been hard on us all. Helping others helps us get through it, and we know it can help you get through it, too. Join us! Please visit: www.SBES365.org to learn more or fill out a volunteer inquiry form. Interested, but not certain? Reach out, and let's talk!
