You may have seen them volunteering at the Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast, or at the recent Scout Sunday Mass, both at Immaculate Conception Church. They were also at Walmart in Clinton collecting food for two local food pantries as part of BSA's annual Scouting for Food project. A few other recent highlights include: • Eight new scouts joined the troop! Welcome Christian Marciante, Deep Patel, Ankit Patibandla, Jacob Ruffolo, Alex Senger, Luke Strober, Oliver Sudol, and Sean Verlin. • A number of scouts moved up in rank and earned merit badges at their recent Winter Court of Honor! • Seventeen scouts received their Totin Chip, a certification which grants scouts the right to carry and use wood tools, such as knives and axes, during scouting events. • Nate Nemeth earned his Eagle rank and set a new Troop 200 record by earning his 100th and 101st merit badges (Fly Fishing and Motorboating). • Four Troop 200 scouts – Phil LaBelle, Cameron Lutz, John Martoccia and Owen Maslanka – were nominated to the Order of the Arrow, scouting's honor society. • The troop took home the third-place trophy at this year's Klondike Derby held at Teetertown Preserve and spent additional weekends indoor rock climbing, hiking Cushetunk Mountain and a portion of the Appalachian Trail. The scouts are heading to Seabase in Florida for a week in mid-April where they'll paddle 5-miles and camp on Big Munson Island as part of the Out Island Adventure. "Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of Spring?" ~ Neltje Blanchan C a s a s H a W s e e K s a d v o C a T e s Every year there are more than 100,000 reports of child abuse or neglect in NJ and more than 10,000 children are removed from their homes because the Court has found it to be too dangerous for them to remain in their homes. Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW) recruit, screen, train and supervise community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children living in foster care. CASA volunteers are appointed by a family court judge to discover the best possible outcome for an abused or neglected child's future as well as make recommendations that support the child's current needs. Volunteers receive support and supervision from a trained social worker throughout the duration of their cases.
