This month, Girl Scout Service Unit 81 will be launching a new program called "Operation Awesome Leader" to thank the Leaders of troops in Clinton Township and Lebanon Borough. Each Leader will receive a sign on their lawn before the morning of April 1 saying "An Awesome Leader Lives Here." The signs are a gesture of appreciation to acknowledge the time and effort that it takes to organize a troop, run the meetings, and plan activities. The Girl Scout program relies on volunteers, so it's fitting that a day is set aside to say a special "thank you" for all that they do. If you know a Leader or see a lawn sign in your neighborhood, feel free to let them know that they are making a difference. To learn about becoming a Girl Scout or what's involved with being a Leader, email us at gshnjserviceunit81@gmail.com. We are always looking for new members and parent volunteers and would be glad to answer questions about this rewarding experience. P a R T n e R s H i P F o R H e a l T H m o n T H l y s T R e s s R e d U C T i o n T i P s We've been living in a particularly stressful time these past few weeks as the Coronavirus upends our routines, and it is easy to have fear consume our thoughts. We can find ourselves having trouble controlling our emotions or having our mind race with all of the worst-case scenarios. This state of mind keeps us from getting anything done in the short term and in the long term is bad for both our mental and physical wellness. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has advice for coping during COVID-19. First, remind yourself to slow down by taking deep and slow breaths many times throughout the day. Make eating healthy and getting enough sleep a priority. Make time for quiet reflective thinking on the positive things that continue to go on in your life. When stress-filled thoughts fill your mind and you feel yourself spiraling down, stop and breathe- refocus and move on. Stay informed with factual information and avoid stories which may sensationalize or induce fear. Learning the facts can empower you and sharing accurate information can help calm fears in others and allow us to be connected and get through this time with a sense of community.
