The narrator for this children's story by Prokofiev will be Richard Egielski, the Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator of "Hey, Al" and many other books for children. The concert, entitled "Animal Antics," will include other selections with animal themes, including music from "Jaws" and Rossini's "Cat Duet." The performance will take place at 3:00 pm at Clinton Township Middle School, 34 Grayrock Road, with Clinton Township resident Lawrence Kursar conducting the orchestra. The concert will be followed by an "instrument petting zoo" in the lobby, which was a very popular feature of last year's children's concert. Members of the Symphony will be on hand to guide young people in trying out various instruments. All tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door of the auditorium before the concert. Advance sales are available through the group's web site: www.HunterdonMusicalArts.org, or at some area businesses, including Clinton Book Shop, Califon Book Shop and Teaberry's Tea Room in Flemington (cash or check only). Visit the web site for more information. To request an accommodation for a disability, call 908.995.7977. In case of snow, the concert will be held on Sun., 2/10. U n i t e d W ay ' s F r e e T a x P r e p S e r v i c e – Keep More of Your Hard-Earned Cash United Way of Hunterdon County is once again offering free tax preparation services to individuals and families through its IRS-certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Building on past success, United Way is now partnering with several local businesses and organizations in the community to extend the reach of the program. As a result, this year's program has expanded and now offers free tax prep services at a number of locations throughout the county. The United Way tax program is completely free of charge – no hidden fees. Refunds can even be e-filed with the IRS in order to receive a rapid refund without any fees. Appointments are necessary but scheduling one is easy. For a complete list of sites and to schedule an appointment, call 2-1-1 or visit uwhunterdon.org. Spanish-speaking preparers are available upon request. United Way of HC is still looking for volunteers to spend a little time learning about tax return preparation. If interested, you'll be trained with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax materials to help people with their federal and state individual income tax returns. This IRS-certified service is available thanks to a unique partnership of UWHC and the IRS. The goals of this program are to provide savings on tax preparation fees as well as assist individuals and families in the claiming of tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC), and to encourage people to put some of their tax refunds into savings accounts. By claiming these credits and splitting refunds, individuals and families have more money to pay bills, pay down debt and achieve or maintain financial stability. Last year, more than $425,000 in refunds benefited local families and the local economy. United Way is working to advance the common good by focusing on income, health and education. These are the building blocks for a good life – a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement and good health. Our goal is to invest in improving lives in HC by creating long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place.
