3 M a r c h 2 0 2 0 – Julie Flnn Carol Beder's While this March issue contains as much green as I can fit in it, I'm writing this column in mid-February. As the song goes, "All the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray." We've had rain for weeks now, and I don't know whether to mourn the fact that we haven't had snow, or to celebrate. We don't have to worry about drought anytime soon, at least. Once again, I'm feeling that spring can't come soon enough. It's refreshing each year to work on the March issue because I know that it marks the turning point. As my mother-in-law (the REAL Mrs. Flynn) always says on St. Patrick's Day, "Spring is ahead of us and there's no going back (to winter) now!" It's nice right now to think about the upcoming Friendly Sons Of St. Patrick/Hunterdon's 2020 Parade in Downtown Clinton, on the afternoon of Sunday, March 15. This will be their seventh parade, with hopefully many, many more to come. I walked in one of their first parades (for Crime Stoppers of Hunterdon County) and I can attest to the fact that a fine time was had by all. It's grown and grown each year since then – it's so nice to have such a great tradition here at home, rather than traveling to the very crowded parade at Morristown, as my family has for decades. You're also invited to the FSSP's AfterParty at the Red Mill Museum Village with live music and refreshments, featuring entertainment from renowned Pennsylvania band "The Amish Outlaws". Tickets (including food and beverages) cost $40 for 21+ and $10 under 21 – contact Gary White: gwhite59195@yahoo.com). Here's what the Friendly Sons are all about: "We strive to promote and preserve Irish-American culture. We are equally proud of our Irish heritage and our American heritage. We serve our community through initiatives such as scholarships, volunteerism and charitable donations. We seek to establish and nurture camaraderie between our members. We are men of similar ideals, values and objectives. We believe that integrity and excellence are at the core of everything we do. God, family and country are top priorities for all of us, both as individuals and as an organization. We believe that supporting our community is fundamental, and we believe that this support should come from individuals and private entities, first and foremost. We believe that respecting and embracing one's heritage is not only appropriate but essential to one's happiness. Our organization is nondenominational and apolitical. As a charity we are asked where the money we've raised goes. The members of the FSSP pay yearly dues, monthly meeting costs and work hard to ensure that the monies raised go straight to families in need." Lebanon, NJ 08833 New Jersey Licensed Master Plumber #8722 Your Remodeling Experts! 908.735.4438 Good Morning Julie, Please accept our heartfelt appreciation and gratefulness for the beautiful and vibrant ad that you placed in the CTNL for our Valentine's Day Breakfast. Quite a few of our patrons were there because they saw the ad. We are happy to share that this was one of our busiest breakfasts to date serving 115 people! All proceeds went to HIOC (Hunterdon Interfaith Outreach Council) to help provide heat through the utility assistance program to those in need. The kindness and generosity of those such as yourself has helped to make a difference in the lives of families who would otherwise be cold this winter. On behalf of Pastor Sarah Lee and the Round Valley United Methodist Church Family it is with deepest gratitude that we thank you. 'The work praises the man." ~ Irish Proverb
