What could be better than a day spent on the water in the summertime? Sign up with the HC Parks Dept for one of these great river day trips – your leaders will fit you with a lifejacket and paddle and then drive to the river where they will discuss maneuvering techniques and canoe safety, and then will guide you down the river. We paddle for about two hours, stop for lunch and paddle for about two more hours. We are flexible with our time, which depends in part on natural forces, such as wind speed and water level. The day will last from 8:15 am to about 3:30 pm (give or take an hour). We'll leave from the Arboretum. For ages 8 through adults, $40 per trip. *New for 2019! If you purchase three river trips at full price, you will get $5 off any other river trip for 2019! Must purchase all at the same time. If the trip is canceled, you must move to another trip. We're happy to tailor a canoe trip to the needs of your group, school, club, charity, or service organization. A pond paddle makes a great birthday party! For questions or to be added to our canoe email list, contact Patrick Eckard at peckard@co.hunterdon.nj.us. Pre-register by the Wednesday before the trip. Please note: Due to water levels or other circumstances, leaders may choose an alternative river at any time. If we cancel the trip for any reason, we will call you as soon as we make the cancellation, but our trips run rain or shine! Dress in layers so you can adjust to changing temperatures. Durable old clothes are best, especially wool and polypropylene fleece in cool weather. Sneakers are recommended; no sandals, boots or heavy shoes. Bring lunch (packed in waterproof container), lots of water, sunscreen, a rain jacket, a hat, eyeglass strap, etc. A complete change of clothing can be packed in a waterproof bag to be carried in your canoe or to be in the van for the trip's end. No alcoholic beverages. No pets are allowed, except for guide animals. Registration for these programs is required and is first-come, first-served. For a registration form, download one from our website at: www.co.hunterdon.nj.us. Click on "Parks & Recreation." For more information call the Parks Division at: 908.782.1158.
