I had a friend that had Whipple surgery and it was not fun. I am glad to hear that you are home and recovering. I am a resident of Clinton Township since 1990 .I have read most of your articles and appreciate your insight and knowledge on so many topics. Get well soon and keep up the good work. Regards, Bob Goral Dear Julie, We've been blessed at First Friday Open Mic to be listed in the Clinton Township Newsletter! So many fans found out about us through the Newsletter, including Mark "Cook" Cucuzella who, before moving away, became a member of the team, helping our format, and introducing us to local artists during our second season. We're so pleased to announce our fourth season in the Clinton Township Newsletter! Thanks so much! Mark Fresolone, First Friday Open Mic of Hunterdon Dear Julie, I always love to read your editorial column. Your last paragraph [in the July 2019 issue] was spot-on. Thank you! – Ellie Voorhees Hi Julie, Just wanted to tell you that I finally had a chance to read the July issue of CTNL and was very moved by your article. You had some experience! Yes - I wish everyone appreciated what we have in the USA. Citizenship that is very precious. [My husband] Warren's family went back to the early 1700's and fought in every war. He was a huge believer in this Country, as am I. Congratulations - well done. Also, please tell Ruth that I wish her a speedy, healthy recovery. She has had a very difficult time. Enjoy the rest of summer - Joan Umholtz. Dear Julie, I thought that it was CTNL policy not to get involved in politics. Obviously I was wrong. There are some of us with enough common sense to realize that the US cannot accept all who want to come here. It has always been US policy to accept only those who came LEGALLY and could contribute to American society. There are others, like you, who have stupidly swallowed the whole open borders concept hook, line and sinker, without bothering to think through what it really means. Sincerely, Werner S. Dear Julie, As Clinton Township residents for the past 30 years, we have enjoyed the Clinton Township newsletter under the guidance of Ruth Keesing, her husband and yourself. Through the years we have watched it grow into an informative publication celebrating our community. Recently you shared a wonderful telling of the trials and tribulations of your illustrious ancestors who arrived on the Mayflower, marking your noble heritage – one to be rightly proud of – only to close the piece with the insertion of your political view on immigration... possibly inadvertently. Though well intentioned as you may have believed your moral expression of outrage to have been on the immigration issue, as a place where people have come to seek community news absent of politics, your choice of the Newsletter was most regrettable. As one of the more complex issues that has defied a reasoned and sensible resolution for decades by our elected leaders, your statement, "How... dare we try to keep others from immigrating to our land..." reduces the issue to a most juvenile and sophomoric position absent of an acknowledged understanding of the fine points on process. The majority view on both sides has clearly indicated the welcoming of all immigrants, as almost all of us are in the US today. Furthermore, it feeds a very dangerous and deepening divide the country is reeling from with the assumption, implicit in your statement, that the moral high ground is yours... agree with me or... Your past writings have allowed sufficient insight as to values and those things most important to you of which we share wholeheartedly as brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents. In closing, may you find it in your heart to seek reprieve in a future issue that speaks to all served by the Clinton Township Newsletter. Warm regards to Ruth. Sincerely, The Fortugno's Dear Werner and Mr. and Mrs. Fortugno, Thank you for reaching out about my column — I hear you. I'm not saying that we should open our borders, only that we should really work together to ensure an effective and humane border policy. Women and children are suffering in other countries and desperate to come here for a better way of life — I feel we shouldn't turn our backs on them. There's got to be a better way, don't you think? I realize that several of our readers agree with you. And Werner, I agree with you in a sense — I would like to see all immigrants become legal US citizens as soon as they are possibly able. So perhaps you and I can agree and disagree at the same time… And, thank you, Bob, Mark, Ellie and Joan! As always, thank you for reading us. I'll try to keep the politics to a minimum.
