Mrs. Mooney's students became such experts on the crayfish that they taught the other third grade classes all about them and provided them with opportunities to interact with the crayfish. When asked what the best part of having the crayfish in their classroom was, Mrs. Mooney's students said the following: "The best thing about having crayfish is you never know what they are going to do next! They can escape, molt, fight, pinch, or even die!" - Jillian "The best thing about having crayfish is seeing them flap their tail and see their whole body move backwards." - Shane "The best thing about having crayfish was that Jimmy molted and got both of his claws back." - Christel Clinton Township Middle School This year, sixth grade students have been using the STEM Engineering Design Process in order to plan for and create a new school garden! This innovative outdoor classroom, conveniently located in the courtyard near the sixth grade wing, is the perfect venue for implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). With some leadership from a few eighth grade students, sixth graders planted different varieties of radish in order to test the effect of soil types on their growth. Sunflowers, corn, potatoes and beans have also been planted and studies will carry on in the fall. Next school year students will not only continue to cultivate the garden and test seeds and soil, they will explore ways to make economic and community connections. A real-life problem for the students to solve is how to make the school garden financially self sustaining. Students will also explore ways this garden may be used to help others in the community. The possibilities are great for the new school garden and the sixth grade team is looking forward to seeing next year's students will do! Congratulations to all our CTMS filmmakers! The 2019 Hunterdon Film Festival was held recently, and CTMS won three trophies! Selina Zhang won Honorable mention for her stop-motion film! Avi Kondra & and Madison Morra won 3rd place for their movie called Paranormal or Prank? Winning 2nd place were Lily Fasciano and Sara Frederick for their DONKEY-mentary about donkeys. The first place winner was Matthew DiGiovanni from Woodglenn school, who made an excellent film about robotics.
