C L I N T O N T O W N S H I P S C H O O L N E W S www.ctsdnj.org I N O U R S C H O O L S : Spruce Run School As the year comes to an end, the preschoolers at Spruce Run School want to wish everyone in Clinton Township a safe and memory filled summer. They send their thanks to their teachers, teaching assistants and the entire special services team for making the 2018-2019 school year one that they will remember. Recently at Field Day, the preschoolers showed their school spirit and teamwork while playing parachute games, getting soaked in a water relay and working their way through a pint sized obstacle course. We at Spruce Run School thank the parent volunteers and community members who made this special day happen. Congratulations to our rising Kindergarten students -- we wish you success and smiles for the 2019-2020 school year! Patrick McGaheran School Summertime, summertime, summertime ...! What a wonderful time to relax and READ!!! When we're into the lazy, hazy days, the next school year can seem quite a ways away, but reading every single day is a great way to prepare for the upcoming school year. Please consider visiting the library as a fun family event, and an opportunity to check out exciting stories to read together as a family, as well as independent reading opportunities for children. Please be sure to visit your library or local bookstore, and please continue to keep reading every day! We will be very busy at PMG this summer, as we have some construction projects underway! We are planning for some new and updated bathrooms, as well as some new heating and air conditioning units. It's all very exciting! We can't wait to show everyone in the fall! Round Valley School Grade 5 Students Participate in "Biztown" Experience! The 5th grade students finished out the school year with a trip to JA Biztown! JA BizTown is a 5 hour simulated workday experience, which provides the opportunity for students to connect the dots between what they learn in the classroom and the real world. In the classroom, 5th graders worked through lessons including: how to apply for a job, how to prepare for an interview, how to write personal checks, balance a checkbook and run a successful business as a team. At JA BizTown, each citizen had a job for the day, participated in business and town meetings, got paid twice, managed their personal checking account, purchased retail items to take home and had the opportunity to vote. 4th Grade Wax Museum: The fourth graders researched famous people and brought them to life during our Wax Museum exhibit. Students were excited to share their hard work and present as their historical figures. In the area of math students will be ending the year by creating their own zoo or dream home while finding its area and perimeter. During Social Studies students created their own business. The different parts of the project include creating a business plan, advertisement, business card and budget. Third Grade Science: Mrs. Mooney's Class was the host family for 11 crayfish! The crayfish provided excellent opportunities for third graders to observe crustacean behaviors and learn about the life cycle and traits of crayfish, as well as the variation of those traits. Students spent weeks with the crayfish and witnessed as they ate, grew, molted and even battled with one another. Third graders could see first hand that crayfish prefer to stay hidden in small safe spaces and that they are nocturnal. Although on occasion, crayfish escaped from their habitats during the day! Fortunately, A L e t t e r f r o m Michele Cone, Superintendent of Schools Another year has flown by and students are off to enjoy their summer vacations with family. This year marked many events and student achievements. Students participated in concerts, plays, sporting events, academic challenges such as Geography Bee and Law Adventure, Wax Museum, Science Night, field days, rich classroom experiences and many more. All of us at the Clinton Township School District wish our students and their families a wonderful and fun filled summer. Get your toes in the sand and enjoy! Thank you, Dr. Michele Cone, Superintendent of Schools Dear Clinton Township Community Members:
