On April 4, The Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge was rocking to the sounds of The Mighty Mighty Huntertones, a band formed by students and teachers of Hunterdon Preparatory School (HPS), a school located in Annandale which serves students from more than 49 school districts located in 11 NJ counties. HPS was host to upwards of 200 guests at its "Outside the Box" Evening of Support fundraiser celebrating the thousands of students whose lives have been transformed by the School's innovative programs and "outside the box" approach to education. Event chairs Kathy Oldakowski of Clinton Township and Jamie Capezzuto, M.S.W., C.S.W. , HPS School Social Worker, produced an extraordinary evening of dinner, music, inspiring speeches from alumni and parent, and silent and live auctions. Thanks to the generosity of its guests, the goal to raise funds for a much-needed transport vehicle for students to attend outdoor learning forums, internships, and field trips was reached! HPS is now the proud owner of a beautiful new 2019 Ford Transit from Flemington Car & Truck Country in Flemington, NJ, a major sponsor. HPS is a not-for-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) serving middle- and high-school students between the ages of 12 to 21 who have been unable to thrive in a traditional school setting. These students are complex learners who greatly benefit from small class sizes, flexible, dynamic educational setting, and integrated counseling services that enable them to discover their unique abilities and talents. The supplementation of enrichment classes, field trips, and self-expression through art and music, outdoor learning forums and transition programs often mean the difference between success and the unacceptable option. Because of fundraisers such as this, HPS can continue to grow the programs that have repeatedly proven successful in helping its students thrive and succeed. Through this type of support and generosity, HPS is able to build a legacy of young adults who live up to their amazing potential and grow to make a positive difference in our communities.
