Students are recording their observations and documenting their findings in personal Science Journals. The many hands on learning opportunities in Science allow students to make connections and understand scientific concepts in real life ways! Multiplication has been our major focus in Math over the past few weeks. Third graders are learning missing factor multiplication which is laying the foundation for beginning division. As the 100th Day of School approached, third grade teachers were preparing creative activities centered around the number 100! Boys and girls had the chance to work with all of the third grade teachers as they rotated through learning stations in each classroom! February's Word of the Month was Kindness. Third Graders worked hard, not only to be kind to others, but to recognize and thank others when they saw and experienced kindness. Grade 4: Students have explored the nonfiction genre through reading lessons on text features and text structures. Students then had the opportunity to apply their knowledge as they researched a choice topic. They gathered information from a variety of sources and reported their findings through their own nonfiction mini-books. In Science, students learned about energy by researching renewable and non-renewable resources. With the culmination of their research, they presented their findings to the class in small groups. Students then moved on to hands-on experiments to learn about force and motion. In Social Studies, students learned about immigration to the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They explored this time period through the eyes of an immigrant by writing first-person narratives to share with the class. Students learned more about fractions, including finding common denominators, putting fractions into simplest form, and ordering fractions from least to greatest. They then learned how to add and subtract fractions with common denominators, and will soon explore mixed numbers and improper fractions and how to multiply fractions. Grade 5: In Social Studies students have just finished their study on SAVE THE DATE!
