The ICS Little Lambs Toddler Program will once again be offered for the 2018-19 school year! Our toddler program provides a warm, positive first school experience for 2 year olds, who have turned 2 by October 1. The program is designed to encourage independence in a fun-filled classroom environment as the teacher and support staff foster growth in all areas of development. The program is offered September-December one day a week for two hours. Beginning in January the program expands to two days each week as we prepare our little ones for their 3 year-old preschool experience the following school year. Each school day will follow a planned schedule which will encompass many opportunities for creative exploration, while allowing the children the freedom to engage in play and satisfy their natural curiosity for life. The lessons planned will support the development of cognitive skills while using creativity and encourage growth in self-confidence. The program emphasizes language development through music, storytelling, dramatic play and social experiences. In addition, our toddlers will engage in integrated activities, which will develop their small and large motor skills in the classroom and on the playground. Registration is now open for the 2018-19 programs and space is limited. Please register online at: www.icsannandale.org/2018-19-registration Class Meets: Thursdays, September – December from 8:45 am – 10 :45 am OR 12:45 pm – 2:45 pm Tuesdays and Thursday, January – May from 8:45 am - 10:45 am OR 12:45 pm – 2:45 pm A 2013 Blue Ribbon School of Academic Excellence, Immaculate Conception School serves children 2 years-old through eighth grade and is the only Catholic School in Hunterdon County. People were suddenly uprooted, evacuating to other locations because it wasn't safe to stay at home. The police may have come to the house, and you may have had to throw your belongings into garbage bags or totes while you hurried to a hotel, a family member or friend's home, or maybe even stayed with a Good Samaritan. Your family might have been separated in the confusion. As traumatic as this was for those of us who lived through Hurricane Sandy, that same experience is being repeated throughout the state, day in and day out, among children in our towns, our schools and our neighborhoods. Because of their parents' substance abuse addictions, mental health issues, domestic violence, physical and sexual abuse and neglect more than 12,000 New Jersey children end up living in the foster care system every year. Through no fault of their own, these children experience the trauma of being removed from their parents, are often separated from siblings, and sometimes attend new schools. When they get to their new foster home, there are strangers there with new foods, new rules and new smells. While they are safe, they are not home. We often underestimate the trauma done to children through the removal alone. While done for their own safety and well-being, for a time they lose all that they know and love. Fear, loneliness and anxiety are often all they take with them. Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) provides volunteer advocates in court for these vulnerable and traumatized children. These volunteers are trained to speak up on behalf of children in care. They visit with the children regularly, learn all they can about how they are doing and what they need, and report their findings to the judge hearing the child's case. They serve as the child's advocate throughout this trying time. You can be a part of CASA's child advocacy mission and help foster children to not just survive the experience but thrive. Become a volunteer. If you can't be a volunteer, then be a donor. If you can't be a donor, then be an ambassador and a supporter.
