Registration for Hunterdon County YMCA Summer Day Camps has started. This year some new and exciting programs will be offered in addition to the popular traditional camp options. YMCA camps offer youth, ages 4 – 12, fun and unique experiences with an opportunity to explore the outdoors, meet new friends, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime! Attending HCY summer camp is a wonderful opportunity for youth to keep their minds and bodies active. According to Kristin Heimall, Senior Program Director, "Every summer I see amazing things happen at our camps. Our dynamic and energetic staff provide our campers with an incredible experience. I've seen new friends sit and chat away as their ice-cream melts, I've seen counselors sit in the grass with a guitar and teach kids a new song, and I've seen our team of Counselors in Training line up on the third-base line to give high-fives to a 5 year old who just kicked the ball for the first time. Camp is all about growing, learning, having fun and making friends." Because each child is unique, the HCY offers a variety of camp experiences. Traditional camp is held at both Camp Carr in Clinton Township and South Camp at South Hunterdon High School in Lambertville. Sports Camp is held at the Deer Path Branch in Flemington and Pre-Kamp for Preschoolers is held at the Round Valley Branch in Annandale. There are also many specialty camp options, including Travel Camp, Horseback Riding, Mad Science, Bricks 4 Kidz (Lego), Baseball, Dance, Tennis, Flag Football, Extreme Sports, Soccer and Lacrosse. New options this year include Nature Camp, NERF Camp, Super Hero and Ninja Warrior Camp. A Counselor in Training Program is available for children ages 13 – 14 at Camp Carr, Sports Camp and South Camp. This program gives youth the opportunity to learn leadership skills, share what they have learned and be a role model for younger campers. Please note: this year there is special pricing for siblings! To ensure that all youth have the chance to experience camp, the Hunterdon County YMCA offers financial assistance to those in need. To learn more about YMCA day camps, call: 908.782.1030 or visit: www.hcymca.org. Registration can be completed at either the Deer Path Branch, 144 West Woodschurch Road in Flemington or the Round Valley Branch, 1410 Rt. 22 West in Annandale. As part of their June Education Series, the following programs are currently open for registration: "CPR Basics" (Choking, Hand-Only CPR): CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim's chance of survival, but only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander. Many people may feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency because they either do not know how to administer CPR or their training has significantly lapsed. Come learn the basics about choking and hand only CPR. Speaker: Paul Hutchins, CPR Program Coordinator, Hunterdon Medical Center. Tuesday, June 12, 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm. In 1997 the New Jersey State Senate and General Assembly passed a series of laws that the governor approved. These laws establishing a venison donation program process, along with the Food Bank Good Samaritan act, helped pave the way for the Hunters Helping the Hungry Program. The United Bow Hunters of New Jersey (UBNJ) provided much need support for the above measures. A year later a few hunters organized Hunters Helping the Hungry, Inc. HHH is a non- profit 501-(c)3 organization with the help of the State Federation of Sportsmen Clubs, and support from the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. HHH raises funds and coordinates efforts by butchers, hunters and food banks throughout NJ. We're always looking for ideas, partnerships and volunteers to help in many ways. Funds from HHH only pay for venison donated by hunters. HHH does not pay for any municipal depredation hunts or farmer depredation hunts. Many farmers and corporations do support HHH through generous donations or allowing hunters to hunt their property or requiring hunters who hunt their property to donate deer through this program.
