1 5 J u n e 2 0 1 8 Fourth Grade students reflected on our Word of the Month ~ "Self- Control". In language arts they have been working on poetry – and what better way to combine both than to create a poem on self-control! Students used our Monday morning "Always Building Community" time to write their poems. Nicely done, fourth grade! Sixth Grade ~ Team Alpha held our second annual Mancala Tournament during Take Your Child to Work Day. Sixth graders are studying early African civilizations and learned how to play the ancient African stone game, Mancala, which combines mathematical skills, strategy and concentration. Some historians believe Mancala is the oldest game in the world! Our tournament finalists pictured from left to right were: Jack Chauvette (block 6) fourth place, Brandon Lee (block 3) second place, our first place winner Bella Conway (block 5), and Zach Gryska (block 4) took third place. The students showed great sportsmanship; fun was had by both contestants and spectators! Unified Arts ~ Enrichment: A team of nine sixth graders received an honorable mention in the New Jersey Bar Foundation Law Fair mock trial competition! The students will have the opportunity to turn the case into a script and perform it at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick at the end of May. Congratulations to the students for all their hard work! We are also proud to share that the following students: Faye Fletcher, Sara Hunt, Gia Kathuria and Julia Mackenzie, are being recognized for their excellence in music composition! These students composed a musical score that was submitted for the Hunterdon County Young Composer Contest. What talent! Clinton Township Middle School 2018 Hunterdon Film Festival: On May 22nd, CTMS hosted the 2018 Film Festival; a documentary filmmaking contest for area middle schools. We had several schools participate, including Woodglen and Clinton Public, and the students showed their amazing movies. Good job to all our filmmakers! Clinton Township School District Mission Statement: The Clinton Township School District, in partnership with the community, achieves excellence for each child by ensuring a meaningful and challenging educational experience in a supportive environment; developing life-long learners who are responsible and productive citizens. Supporting Art in Our Schools The"Art By Jeanne" Benefit Trust, was established by the family of Jeanne Vanderbeek Downey in 2014, to support art education programs in local school districts. Her talent and her love for the arts brought her much joy in her life. One of her wishes was to see that love of the arts continued even after she left this earth. Our school district is the beneficiary of a generous grant. We are grateful for the grant, our CTSD art educators – Chelsey Lindaberry, Patick Gugliandolo, Kelly Digioia and Laura Evans – and the many, many students who were involved in designing this uniquely special project. As you will see, these special works of art brought much joy to them – and will continue to bring joy to many others – thus, fulfilling Mrs. Downey's wish to see that love of the arts continues. The CTMS Courtyard Inspiration gARTen: Our courtyard gARTen is getting an amazing makeover, thanks to a hard working group of volunteer parents, students and teachers! Notice that there is ART in our gARTen! This will be a beautiful space for our entire school community to enjoy, with many beautiful plants, seating areas and student artwork. We will continue with the transformation! We are still in need of of many more supplies and donations for the Inspiration gARTen: ● tiles ● old clay flower pots ● plates (porcelain or ceramic) ● old silverware ● keys ● buttons ● aluminum cans ● two- liter soda bottles ● soda can tabs ● marbles ● sea glass ● mosaic tiles ● shells ● beads ● Mod Podge ● oil-based paint pens ● yopsoil (bags) ● mulch (black, bags) ● weed blocker paper ● pavers: all shapes ● garden tools ● buckets ● ROCKS! ● Gift cards are appreciated: Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart and Michaels.
