Just when you think that the numbers can't get lower, they do. Almost all the schools in our region reported accepting a lower percentage of their applicants, and schools have reported placing more students on their wait list (my guess is they do this so they won't hurt their yield rate which would affect their overall rankings and ratings). What will YOUR son or daughter do if Princeton or Boston University or Lafayette calls them in August to tell them they now have a spot for him/her? My advice that I hope all college seekers will heed: LOVE your safety schools. You may not only need to attend because you did not get into any of your other schools, but you may CHOOSE to attend even if you are ACCEPTED into your first choice school. Washington Post reported on March 29, 2018 in an article "You got into the college of your dreams. But will you actually go there?" 25% of students that get into their top choice school don't actually enroll there. Wow. I love sharing my knowledge and assisting students with the college and career process. As one parent just shared with me, he would never expect the school to provide the tools for his daughter to become the best violinist or basketball player, and he would gladly pay for supplemental lessons/sessions outside of the school system. He shared that this is the reason why it was not a difficult decision to hire me. I work with students on their college selection list, essays, applications, interviews and all that comes up during the decision process. There are unexpected circumstances, and I am here to help. Juniors and Sophomores - please call me 908-642-8509 to set up your FREE consult in my Clinton office with dedicated parking space between Baja Burrito and the Chef and Builder restaurants. I am still taking a few more Junior clients. Sophomores have begun jumping on board and I believe the thought process should ideally start well before Junior year. A client from Hunterdon Central that I met with last week said to me, "I wish I had begun working with you in my Sophomore year". My goal with most clients is to have the entire process done BEFORE they start Senior Year so they can actually enjoy it! Don't forget - the Application and Essay Boot Camp is in August - still a few spots remaining. Call: 908.642.8509, or email Nicole at: info@ nextstepadvising.com to secure your spot! f L a g R e t i R e m e n t C e R e m o n y t o B e h e L d i n L e B a n o n Boy Scout Troop 200 will hold a flag retirement ceremony on May 7 at the Holjes-Sheppard Memorial Park in Lebanon Borough. The event will begin at 6:30 pm. Local vexillologist and past Troop 200 Scoutmaster Larry MOAT Friend will be on hand to share his knowledge about our flag and its history. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will provide community members and local businesses the opportunity to retire their worn American flags in a respectful and appropriate manner. For those that don't know, the park is named in honor of two local fallen heroes and members of Troop 200, Lt. Frederick Y. Holjes and Warrant Officer and helicopter pilot Robert P. Sheppard who were killed during Vietnam. Sheppard was the troop's first Eagle Scout. For more information, please follow BSA Troop 200 on Facebook or visit the Troop 200 website at: www.
