Michael Hebling will present Adventures on the Highlands Trail at the
April meeting of the South Highlands Group of the Sierra Club. Mr Hebling is
the founder of Metrotrails, a hiking group that began informally in 1997 and
evolved into a non-profit corporation. Michael leads 15-20 mile hikes on a weekly
basis, usually on Sundays, all over NJ, PA, NY and sometimes DE.
To hike the Highlands Trail is to journey along the spine of Northwest New
Jersey on a path that showcases the best outdoor, ecological, historical points
of interest the area has to offer. "I absolutely love this trail," Helbing remarks.
"It highlights the diversity of our area. It really promotes it." That diversity
includes deep forests, spectacular vistas, waterfalls, small rural communities
and remnants of historic features such as the 19th Century Morris Canal and
iron industry areas that date to colonial days, now reclaimed by forest.
Join us on Wednesday, April 4 at the North County Branch Library
in Clinton at 7:00 pm! The program is free and open to the public.
