LGBTQ youth, teens, young adults, parents and allies are all welcome to join us the first Thursday of each month (weather permitting) from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the North Branch County Library, 65 Halsted Street in Clinton, NJ 08809, and also on Saturdays between 1:00 and 3:00 pm at the Flemington Free Public Library , 118 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. We host a variety of events throughout the year! One of our goals is to provide resources for LGBT and questioning teens. We rely on your generous donations to keep these initiatives going! You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter for news and updates. SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY 2018: A $500 college scholarship will be awarded to an entering college freshman (Fall 2019), and made out to the entering college in the winning student's name. Applicants must submit their essay of no less than 1,000 words on or before the first Thursday in August. The winner will be announced at our September meeting. Matthew Loscialo started the GLBT in 2003 and the group become a non-profit in 2013. Matthew, a local resident who lives with Asperger's Syndrome, achieved his Bachelor's of Business, Magna Cum Laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2014, and currently is working as a landscape photographer. In addition, over the years Matthew has won several blue ribbons in the Professional Photographers of America/NJ contests, as well as blue ribbons overall in the National Professional Photographers of America Contest. Visit: www.MatthewLoscialo.com to see his work. Though bullied and teased in school, Matthew survived. He wants young people who feel marginalized to know that they too will survive, and that they should reach out to local support groups and supportive adults around them. Matthew speaks to various support groups throughout the year. Remember, parents appreciate it when parents attend these meetings with their children to support LGBTQ children. The LGBTQ children then know that there are kids who are straight who like them for who they are. Please come out and check us out! (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Club will teach children about science and other technology fields as well as engage them in creative science projects that they can take home. Some programs will include: the chemistry behind making slime, making a sturdy popsicle bridge, making a soft landing for an egg drop competition and learning about chemical reactions. The S.T.E.M. Club will be focusing on a different area of STEM each session and will even have guest speakers from those fields! This fun and interactive approach to learning is sure to get your child excited to learn more about STEM, all the while having fun and being creative! The STEM Club will take place every other Thursday from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm. (Our first meeting was January 18.) This club is geared to engage children aged 9-13. Parents are invited to join their children from 6-6:30 pm for pizza and to observe a demo of their children's' projects. This club, including the pizza, is completely free! We hope you will join us for this fun event! Harvest is located at 87 Park Ave., Flemington, NJ, 08822.
