Here are a few things to do to get you started. 1. Remove screens from windows and install storm windows (helps reduce the cost to heat your home and prevents window sills from rotting). 1. Clean out gutters and downspouts (helps keeps ice dams from forming). 1. Insulate pipes in your home's crawl spaces and attic (keeps pipes from freezing; the more insulation, the better!). 1. Store firewood at least 30 feet away from your home (reduces chance of fire and termites). 1. Familiarize responsible family members with the gas main valve and other appliance valves (if you are not sure, have a plumber come out to teach you). 1. Clean the clothes dryer exhaust duct, damper and space under the dryer (lint buildup causes fires!). 1. Check the attic for adequate ventilation (check exterior wall to be sure ceiling insulation is not blocking outside air from soffit vents). 1. Clean the kitchen exhaust hood and air filter (keeping the hood clean of cooking grease helps keep a stovetop fire from spreading). 1. Check the water hoses on the clothes washer, refrigerator icemaker and dishwasher for cracks and bubbles (replace any hoses that show signs of leaking). 1. Test all ground-fault-circuit-interrupter (GFCI) outlets (these should be tripped and reset once a month; if they do not trip or reset, have the outlet changed by a qualified electrician). A social hour including cocktails (cash bar) and passed hors d'oeuvres, will be followed by a premium seated dinner and entertainment provided by three top comedy acts. All proceeds from the event benefit the YMCA Financial Assistance Fund, a confidential program making YMCA programs and services available to all Hunterdon County community members regardless of an inability to pay. This year's talented comedians are Buddy Fitzpatrick, Leighann Lord, and headliner Johnny Lampert. Buddy Fitzpatrick has been a regular at prominent New York City clubs including The Comic Strip, Caroline's Comedy Club and The Gotham Comedy Club. He has also been seen on Comedy Central and Gotham Comedy Live. Leighann Lord has appeared on many stand-up comedy shows including Girls Night Out, The Original Def Comedy All Star Jam, and Comedy Central. Johnny Lampert, one of the premier comedians in the country, is the headliner. Lampert is a regular at New York City's and Los Angeles' best comedy clubs including Caroline's on Broadway, The Comic Strip and The Improv. He has also made numerous television appearances on MTV, A&E, NBC, HBO, Comedy Central, and most recently on Gotham Comedy Live. In addition to dinner and entertainment, the evening includes a Silent Auction with chances to win fabulous gifts and experiences from local vendors, as well as tickets to Walt Disney World in Orlando. "Y Comedy Night is a fun night out with friends to enjoy the acts of top-rate comedians. But it is so much more than just a comedy show; it's a wonderful way to give back to the community and support the Y's financial assistance program which benefits over 1,650 local children and families right here in Hunterdon County," said Andy Cedarbaum, Y Comedy Night Event Chair. In 2016 alone, the Hunterdon County YMCA provided over $518,000 in financial assistance in the form of scholarships for programs such as child care, summer camp, swim lessons and youth programs. Tickets to Comedy Night are $90 per person and advance purchase is requested. Tickets are available for purchase at http://www.hcymca.org/comedy- night.
