November is a perfect time for students to practice relaxation strategies as
they move into the winter and the holiday season. Relaxation can be learned
through yoga, exercise, mindfulness, awareness and simple breathing techniques.
When students practice relaxation strategies, they can stay in the present moment
and achieve their goals inside and outside of the classroom. Relaxation strategies
also benefit students by helping them to:
· Engage and strengthen the vestibular system, which is important for
learning, balance and more.
· Engage both sides of the brain, which is important for all kinds of movement
and learning.
· Calm down strong emotions, which helps students socially and emotionally,
so they can learn, remember and make good decisions.
· Strengthen the core, which helps them to get more oxygen, pay attention in
school and sit with good posture.
· Enhance the immune system, lower blood pressure and lower blood sugar.
· Visualize and affirm their hopes for the future.
· Feel a sense of joy and peace.
Dr. Kimberly Borin of Encouraging Works, LLC helps students breathe life
into their academic and career goals in these simple and easy ways. She helps
students tap into their own sense of peace, through yoga, academic coaching, or just
simple information about the adolescent brain. Her classes and academic coaching can
help students and student athletes find the balance and peace they need, one nourishing
moment at a time. Her 30 years of experience in counseling and teaching can help
students achieve as they continue to enhance their mind, body and spirit. To learn

Hunterdon Hills Ballet is presenting "Our Clinton Nutcracker" on
December 16 – the story of Clara and the Nutcracker set in our picturesque
Clinton! Local dancers are excited to share the magic with you! Artistic Director, Elaine
Mathews has been working hard on delivering the beauty of the story with a Clinton twist.
In this inaugural production of The Nutcracker, local student Kavita Gupta
will dance the role of Clara. Kavita, age 13, began studying ballet at age 10, and was
accepted to the American Ballet Theatre's New York summer intensive last summer,
where she trained for five weeks. In addition to studying ballet with Elaine Matthews
at HHB, she also enhances her training with private Pilates instruction. Kavita chose
to enroll with HHB this year because it enables her to elevate her level of training at a
nearby studio. Kavita lives in Asbury, NJ (Warren County). To come see the magic,
