Fall in Hunterdon County is second to none! Full of so many traditions... apple picking.... pumpkin carving, raking leaves and football on Sundays. But believe it or not, Hunterdon is missing something in arguably its most beautiful time of year. On October 8, 2017 that ends with the inaugural Main Street Half Marathon of Hunterdon and what promises to be a new fall tradition to add to your list, as well as an achievement to add to your tally. Beginning in downtown Clinton with views of the iconic Red Mill, over the river... through the woods... and past at least one grandma's house, the Main Street Half will be a celebration of health, and highlight some of the greatest things our area has to offer – beautiful landscape, welcoming communities and generously supportive small businesses…while making an effort to contribute in the fight against one of our area's biggest challenges – addiction. With a hometown finish on Main Street in Flemington and a party with a few hundred of your neighbors and closest new friends, we hope you'll join in the movement to bring it back local! The program provides 1,300 school supply kits and/ or backpacks to ensure all Hunterdon County students go back to school feeling confident and prepared. United Way is asking individuals, companies, and organizations to participate in the drive by either donating school supplies or providing a monetary donation to support the program. Any amount of supplies or dollars donated will improve the life of a Hunterdon County student in need. Donations will be turned into basic school supply kits suitable for each student's grade level. Supplies ranging from erasers and crayons to backpacks and scientific calculators are all in high demand. The United Way will be hosting a special Stuff-the-Bus on Monday, August 7 at the Community Volunteer Center, 20 Fulper Road in Flemington from 12:00 - 6:00 pm. Drop off donations, have your picture taken and meet other volunteers and donors. Attendees can also sign up to help sort and distribute back packs. Stuff the Bus drop-off days also will be happening at shopping centers throughout August. Consider partnering with United Way of Hunterdon County for this program. Community participation is what allows Tools 4 School to exist. Contact Amy Andersen for details: amy@uwhunterdon.org or: 908.237.1689.
