Keeping your child engaged with learning over the summer can be a
chore. Use some of these Montessori ideas to keep your child focused and on
track this summer.
For Toddlers:
• Instead of filling your blowup pool with just water, add bubbles.
Children will be mesmerized by the colors, sounds and just plain fun!
• Pool noodles have amazing uses out of the pool. Cut them up for lacing activities,
cut them length wise for boat races – the uses are endless.
For Preschoolers/Kindergarteners:
• Have your child set the table for dinner. This not only helps practice counting
(5 plates, 5 cups, etc) but it also hones their grace and courtesy.
• Find objects around the home that start with a particular sound (look for 'b'
sounds, like brush).
For Elementary:
• Have your child map out your summer travel plans with a paper map. What
states will you have to drive through to get to your location? How long can you
drive before you need to stop for gas?
• Children can be helpful in the kitchen. Have your elementary aged child meal
plan with you for a week, shop, prep and cook together.
