Sometimes, the only times grandchildren get to see their grandparents are on major holidays and at times, because of the high cost of travel, not even then. With the dispersion of the extended family, Seniors can feel isolated and alone. This isolation can make our Seniors more prone to depression and cognitive and physical decline. Perhaps no other age group feels the keen sting of loneliness more than the elderly. Our aging population who find themselves isolated can develop behaviors that make it hard for them to function in a typical social environment. At times these behaviors are considered unacceptable to others as the Seniors tend to lose their social manners. Today's working generation is so busy with business obligations, family responsibilities to their own children, engagement in electronic social media that even Seniors residing with them do not have many opportunities to interact with their family members and may even feel pushed aside. A way to alleviate these issues is for a Senior to have regularly scheduled activities they can share with their peers. Some Seniors may not be independent enough to seek out and enjoy that type of interaction on their own. This is exactly why Open Arms Adult Day Club is here. We offer Seniors the socialization they may be lacking. We offer many cognitive and physical age appropriate activities throughout the day including the opportunity to have a cup of coffee or "do lunch" with their friends at Open Arms. We provide intergenerational activities with children from our local school and daycare center. Our Open Arms Adult Day Club staff encourages seniors to talk about themselves and their interests. This allows them to regain or grow their sense of self-worth. Open Arms is here to give Seniors a place to "belong" and build relationships. Take a proactive step and sign up your loved one at Open Arms Adult Day Club today. We are conveniently located in Lebanon in the Lebanon Reformed Church at 18b Maple Street, Lebanon, easily accessible to Route 22 and Interstate Highway 78. Open Arms is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more information or to come by for a visit contact us at: 908.840.4128.
