Preview Night is on Friday, May 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event has traditionally been held the first Wednesday in May; we changed the dates to offer Basket Day fun and shopping to the broader community of working parents and families. The day also provides an ideal opportunity to shop for Mother's Day gifts. Preview Night features a broad sampling of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres, refreshments and live music. Guests will have the opportunity to shop before Saturday's crowds. Items include frozen gourmet meals, potted flowers, antiques, designer clothing, furniture, quilts, artwork, china and children's toys. Guests can also participate in a silent auction. Past auction items have ranged from artwork and fine silver to vacation timeshares. Preview Night tickets are $25 per person; tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. The celebration and shopping will continue on Basket Day Saturday, with activities for the entire family, including the children. A light breakfast, luncheon and bagged lunches will be available for purchase. Saturday admission is free. A portion of the proceeds will go to support local food banks, after-school programs, and life-skills training for those in need. l e u k e M i a & l y M P H o M a S o c i e t y ' S m a n & W o m a n o F t h e y e a r c a M P a i g n ! I am honored that the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has nominated me as a candidate in their "Man & Woman of the Year" fundraising campaign, which will run until June 15. The Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY) campaign is a spirited fundraising competition in communities across the U.S. in which participants build fundraising teams to compete for the title of Man or Woman of the Year. They raise funds for LLS blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. The titles are awarded to the man and woman in each community who raises the most funds during the ten-week campaign; the top local fundraisers in the country also win the national titles. You can support their efforts by donating to or joining their campaigns, because everyone wins when cancer loses! My campaign will be run until 6/15, ending with a gala where the winner is announced! My goal is to raise a minimum of $50,000 through fundraising letters, social media and two events. One event will be at Grape Finale where we will taste and bottle wine that everyone will get to take home; the other is a 90's themed field day party at my parents' home in Lebanon, NJ. There are three easy ways to make a tax deductible donation to help me reach my goal: 1. Donate (securely) online: www.mwoy.org/pages/nj/nnj17/ckozakis. 2. Mail a check (made payable to: "The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society" or "LLS"). All donations must be received by June 15, 2017. 3. Through your company's matching gift program 4. Call: 908.892.6287 or email: cassandra.kozakis@nm.com for more info. Thank you for being part of my journey. I'm honored to be part of yours! Be well, Cassandra Kozakis, 2017 Woman of the Year Candidate. c a S a S H a w S e e k S a d v o c a t e S Every year there are more than 100,000 reports of child abuse or neglect in NJ. More than 10,000 are removed from their homes because the Court has found it to be too dangerous for them to remain in their homes. In an effort to address these children's many needs, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW) recruits, screens, trains and supervises community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children living in foster care. CASA volunteers are appointed by a family court judge to discover the best possible outcome for an abused or neglected child's future as well as make recommendations that support the child's current needs. Volunteers receive support and supervision from a trained social worker throughout the duration of their cases. To become a CASA volunteer you must be over 21 years of age, have no criminal or child abuse history, positive references, an abundance of common sense and a desire to help children in need. CASA SHaW is offering information sessions for prospective volunteers interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity. Interested in becoming a CASA advocate?
