Although good manners are important throughout the year, during the month of May at PMG, staff members make an extra effort to practice, reinforce and praise students for having good manners. Having good manners and being respectful of others and ourselves is so important to learn at a young age. We talk with students about good manners on the playground, in the hallway, in the classroom, in the public restroom, with their friends and adults as well as other basic tips for taking care of themselves and others. Throughout the year students are recognized for displaying kind and courteous behaviors. PMG Class Trips PMG's third grade students recently extended their scientific learning during a grade-level trip to the NJ State Museum. During the trip the students watched "Dinosaurs At Dusk", a planetarium show that took them back in time in search of the ancestors of modern birds and the origins of flight. The third graders also attended a presentation entitled "In The Field With The Bighorn Basin Dinosaur Project". Under the guidance of a skilled paleontologist, the students became familiar with exciting archaeological discoveries and they learned interesting facts about various types of fossils. Second grade students visited the Red Mill in Clinton, NJ to enhance their learning of cultures and traditions. Students learned about community life in the 1800s including schooling and commerce. Students visited the blacksmith's shop and carriage shed to learn more about transportation. Activities such as shelling corn, carding wool and candle making were also explored. Rd V Scho Round Valley School and the Reading Olympics! What a great event our Reading Olympic teams had at Holland Township School! Our students read 35 books from all genres. There were 16 teams and 190 students from all across Hunterdon County competing. Once again we dominated the competition with outstanding comprehension of the books read, RACE responses and excellent behavior! All teams received a first place standing! The Literary Leopards scored 45 points. Revenge of the Book Reading Bears scored 47 points. The Book Shredding Bulls scored 48 points. The Dominating Duckies scored 50 points, which was one point away from the top score of the night! Our students were outstanding and you can tell from their points, they knew their books! Thank you to Mrs. Sielaff, Mrs. Flannery, Ms. Fuentes, Mrs. Laudato, Ms. Sandorse, and Mrs. Zappulla for helping moderate and supporting our teams. Reading Olympics would not be possible without the support of our PTA. Each month Round Valley School has an All School Meeting to celebrate student learning and activities that are happening in our school. We encourage students to take the lead in our meetings and we are proud to say that our students have highlighted our Words of the Month with presentations for the entire school to enjoy. Some student presentations include: 'Best of Me' ~ (Mrs. Wendel's Class) Responsibility Video ~ (4th grade) Compassion ~ (Tommy, Isabella, and Selina) Girl Scout Presentation ~ Bronze Award for Courtyard Beautification (Emma, Alicia, Carlee, Chloee, Nicole, and Brianna) Generosity ~ (Lily and Julie) Kindness ~ (Selina) Perseverance ~ (Jadon, Dylan, Dean, and Bo) Perseverance ~ (Annie, Lizzie, Ava, and Lauren) Honesty ~ (Gavin, Shannon, and Estefanie) Self-Control Rap (Caleigh / TBD) What makes it even more fun is that parents come to share in the fun! t Tohip Midd• Scho One of our 8th grade Law Adventure teams won second place in the annual New Jersey Bar Foundation mock trial program! The contest challenges students to research case law pertaining to a given topic, and create an original case for a mock trial. The winning case, Hilton v. Rolling Pines Rehabilitation Center, will be performed by the students at the NJ Bar Foundation in front of a judge and jury. Congratulations to our winning team! We have ten groups of students who are preparing for the annual Hunterdon Film Festival to be held at CTMS in late May. Schools from all around the area are invited to attend and to submit films for the contest. Students select a topic, research, interview an expert, conduct surveys and compile a 4-6 minute documentary for the contest. May the odds be ever in our favor! Our annual enrichment trip to the Gettysburg National Park is on Tuesday, May 30. We will visit the museum, have a tour of the battlefields, and visit the town and national cemetery. t H e c l i n t o n t o w n S H i P f o u n d at i o n f o r e d u c a t i o n a l e x c e l l e n c e Please consider partnering with the Clinton Township Foundation for Educational Excellence by commemorating your child's educational journey with the purchase of a seat!
