FIND US ON FACEBOOK: John Higgins For Mayor Hello, my name is Marc Strauss, and I am a Republican running for Mayor of Clinton Township. I moved to Clinton Township in 1984 and graduated from North Hunterdon High School. My wife, Kelly, and I have two children and live on Cokesbury Road. Our daughter is a senior at Rutgers, and our son is a freshman at North. We are members of the Annandale Reformed Church. I work for PMA Companies as a Senior Risk Control Consultant, and for Union Township as the Public Safety Coordinator. Prior to this, I had the privilege of serving as an Officer, Detective and Sergeant for the Clinton Township Police Department. Additionally, the Township appointed me Emergency Management Coordinator and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Coordinator. e Annandale Hose Company, our Township's fire company, elected me six times to Chief, and the Hunterdon County Fire Chiefs Association selected me from among all of the county's chiefs to be their President for two terms. e people of Clinton Township twice elected me to represent them on the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Board of Education representing both Clinton Township and Lebanon Borough. We love Clinton Township, which is why it's so frustrating to see the same problems go unsolved year after year. Our affordable housing plan continues to remain controversial and go unresolved. Our Township roads are disgraceful, and the few that have been fixed aren't being maintained and are falling into disrepair again. We have insufficient commuter parking and public transportation options for our residents. At the heart of these problems is our municipal government. Important decisions, such as the placement of affordable housing, are being made behind closed doors without sufficient community input. ere is little communication between the Council and taxpayers. Our residents have little if any information about what the township is doing to address important issues affecting us. I am running for Mayor to solve these problems. I have seen how our local government works from inside and out. • Revisit our current affordable housing plan, and make sure our entire community is part of the decision, not just a select few. • Make sure that we are spending our tax dollars responsibly and not operating at a deficit. • Work with our neighboring towns and county freeholders to make sure we finally address the commuter parking and public transportation issues for our residents. We must and can come up with a regional solution to this growing problem. • Put forth a plan to make sure our Township roads are paved and maintained as needed. • Establish a better line of communication with our local Boards of Education, and make sure we are all working together. • Will look for areas we can utilize shared services and explore regionalization opportunities. WE have a great Township, and it deserves to have these issues resolved. Together, WE can do better, and together WE will.
