C l i n t o n T W P N J . c o m w i n t e r s t o r m s Now that the winter season is upon us, residents should be aware of some of the most common injuries associated with winter storms, including: car accidents due to slippery roads • carbon monoxide poisoning • slips and falls due to icy sidewalks • frostbite • being struck by falling icicles, tree limbs and utility poles • electrocution due to downed power lines • falls from roofs or skylights while removing snow • roof collapse under weight of snow or ice • burns from fires • exhaustion • dehydration • back injuries or heart-attack while shoveling snow. The Township encourages residents to be sure vehicles are in peak working condition, and also to keep an emergency kit in your vehicle which includes the following items: blankets, cell phone, windshield scraper/snow brush/flashlights, extra gloves and winter clothes, chains, matches, traction aids (sand or cat litter), emergency flares, jumper cables, snacks, water and road maps. Taking extra care during the snow season can ensure a safe winter for you and your family. m A i l b ox e s A n d s n ow The Township asks all homeowners with rural mail delivery to check the distance between the mailbox and the curb. Mailboxes hanging over the curb may be too close to the street and run the risk of being damaged by a snow plow. Our Public Works drivers make every attempt to be mindful of mailboxes. In the event your mailbox does sustain damage, the Township will either repair your mailbox or reimburse the homeowner up to $75 with proof of receipt. Questions? Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets or highways, an emergency shall exist, and no vehicle shall be parked on the streets or highways or portions thereof indicated. The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic. Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in violation shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace to the safe and proper regulation of traffic and any police officer may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The owner shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and storage which may result from such removal before regaining possession of the vehicle. PARKING PROHIBITION FOR SNOW PLOWING AND REMOVAL The above regulations apply to all municipal streets in the Township. The Clinton Township Police Department would like to inform our residents, schools and business owners that the 24-hour, non-emergency Police telephone number is: 908.735.7233. The Emergency number is 911. Frequently the Police Department receives telephone calls on the business line that must be routed to a police dispatcher for non-emergency and emergency calls. To provide prompt and more efficient service we are reminding the public that by dialing (908) 735-7233 you will talk directly to a police telecommunications expert or dispatcher and not a recording. The police representative is always in direct radio contact with the patrol officers at any time. The police representatives also have direct contact with other services such as the local outreach programs such as crisis intervention, rescue squads, fire departments and other County and State Law Enforcement agencies that work with the Clinton Township Police. We recommend the following: n Post (908) 735-7233 by the telephone next to 911 and other emergency numbers. n Store this number in your cell phone and place in your address book. n Provide your alarm company with the (908) 735-7233 number. n Provide the (908) 735-7233 number to your family. Please be prepared to provide the following information when calling: 1. The nature of your call and the location. 2. Your name and telephone number. 3. If you are calling to speak to a specific officer, do you wish to speak with an officer only? Or, would you prefer to have an officer respond to your location? 4. To answer questions such as a description, time and other parties relative to any incident you are reporting. For business related matters only, such as records, please call Monday through Friday only, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, (908) 735-7230. n e w s F r o m t h e p o l i C e d e p A r t m e n t 24-Hour, Non-Emergency Police Telephone Number: 908.735.7233 EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBER: 911
