Editor's Column continued from Page 1 I'm reminded of this while working on the cover of our February issue. Valentine's Day is my Super Bowl. I love all things pink, sparkly, flowers and chocolate, hearts and roses. ("Fresh flowers...", my daughter said quite seriously, a couple of years ago, "... I don't get it. They just die." True, but they're so beautiful until then!) Our little tomboy is now a finance major in college, fearless and fantastic – headed for a great career. I figure someday I'll have grandkids who share my love of all things pink, sparkly and flowery. I wish you all a Very Happy Valentine's Day, whether you're into all of it or not. Remember to make every day your Valentine's Day – I know I will! – Julie Flnn♥ P.S. That dollhouse, by the way, was enjoyed by two of my children – my boys. From outside of my daughter's room, I would overhear them and their friends yelling the following, "And then Batman flies into the 'widdle' house, and then Darth Vader flies into the 'widdle' house... AND THEN THEY FIGHT!!!" The boys were thrilled to discover that the balsa-wood furniture (so lovingly created by their mother 30 years previously) could be easily smashed to bits by a superhero v. super-villain fight in the "widdle'" house. I resigned myself to the realization that at least some of my children were enjoying the same thing that I had in my childhood, albeit in a very different way. Vive la différence! Want to march with us or support us and promote your business with an advertisement or parade sponsorship? Here's how: Clinton First Aid & Rescue Squad marks its 50th Anniversary in 2017, and Clinton Fire Department marks its 125th! The two volunteer-based organizations are jointly celebrating their combined 175 years of service to this community with a May 20 Anniversary Parade. The joint celebration is very appropriate for Clinton First Aid & Rescue Squad and Clinton Fire Department – not only do they often work emergency scenes together, but many of their members have served both organizations over the years. Want to show your support for CFARS or CFD and promote your business? There are many opportunities to do one or both, including: • Placing an ad in our program brochure, which will reach residents of both Hunterdon County and numerous surrounding areas. • Purchasing a commemorative anniversary t-shirt or coin. All proceeds help offset the cost of the parade. We are looking for other fire departments, rescue squads and marching bands to join the parade. Trophies will be awarded! To learn more about the parade, register to march, place an ad in our program brochure or purchase a commemorative t-shirt or coin, please visit: www.ClintonFireRescueParade.com. The Clinton Fire Department, located in the heart of downtown Clinton, proudly protects a population of over 2,000, covering approximately 1.2 square miles. We run out of one station located on the corner of New Street and Old Route 22. The Clinton First Aid & Rescue Squad is a nonprofit organization that provides pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services and Rescue Services (vehicle extrication, water rescue, collapse, trench, rope and confined-space rescue) to the Town of Clinton, and portions of surrounding towns. Our members run approximately 3,000 calls a year in the 48 square miles we cover. Visit: www.ClintonFireRescueParade.com for more information. s A v e t h e d A t e F o r t h e F r i e n d l Y s o n s o F s t . p A t r i C k ! The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Hunterdon County (FSSP) are holding their Annual Dinner Dance at The Grand Colonial on March 4, and their St.Patrick's Day Parade is on Sunday, March 12, 3:00 pm in downtown Clinton – we hope to see you there! FSSP strives to promote and preserve Irish-American culture while serving our community through initiatives such as scholarships, volunteerism and charitable donations.
