On Saturday, February 4, the Hunterdon Symphony will present their annual Concert for Young People. This year Peter and the Wolf returns to the concert stage at 3:00 pm at Clinton Township Middle School, 34 Grayrock Road, Clinton. This beloved music by Sergei Prokofiev was written in 1936, and a narrator tells the story of Peter and his adventures to the accompaniment of the orchestra. For this performance there will be a signer for the hearing impaired. The Symphony, conducted by Lawrence Kursar, will also perform music from "The Chronicles of Narnia" with clarinet soloist Zachary Hann. The performance will be followed by an "instrument petting zoo" in the lobby, a popular feature of the children's concerts in the past. Members of the Symphony, many of whom are music teachers, will be on hand to guide young people in trying out various instruments. Hunterdon Musical Instrument Corp., located in Flemington, is again loaning the instruments that will be available for this hands-on experience. All tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door of the auditorium before the concert. Advance sales are available online at: www.HunterdonMusicalArts.org, or the following area merchants (cash or check only): Califon Book Shop, Clinton Book Shop, Teaberry's Tea Room in Flemington, Minette's Candies or The Book Garden in Frenchtown. Visit the website for more information. To request an accommodation for a disability, call 908.995.7977. Snow Date: 3:00 pm, Sunday, Feb. 5. In addition to his work with the symphony, Conductor Lawrence Kursar teaches instrumental music at Woodglen School in Lebanon Township and plays French horn with the Crosswinds Trio, Main Street Brass Quintet and a number of orchestras in the area. Event sponsored by Hunterdon Musical Arts, funded in part by the NJ State Council on the Arts/ Dept. of State, a Partner Agency of the NEA, through funds administered by the HC Cultural & Heritage Commission. Each year, WFC makes donations to our School Districts and PTA's/PTO's that we serve. This year, WFC is also making donations on behalf of our entire community of students, their families and our WFC staff, to Feeding America and The Ronald McDonald House Charities. Feeding America is the Nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization and over 98% of donations go directly to their cause. The Ronald McDonald House Charities creates a "home-away-from-home" for families with hospitalized children, so they can stay close by to them at little or no cost. About 86% of their donations go directly to their cause. We are proud to support these amazing organizations. The Work-Family Connection hopes you had a very Happy Holiday Season and we wish you a Healthy, Prosperous New Year!
