This summer I was thrilled to attend a STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Forum, located in Westtown School, Philadelphia and was nominated by my science teacher. I was both excited and nervous as this was going to my first time attending a 5 day long overnight program. I learned a lot from this program including improving my speaking and debating skills. The program also planned several activities and encompassed a wide range of STEM topics such as robotics, computer programming, medicines and different jobs and career options in STEM. The most exciting event of the whole day was to meet an astronaut named Michael Massimino and listen to his spell binding experience in space as well as ask him interesting questions. The next day we visited the Franklin Institute and built our own robots which were similar to a Lego Mindstorm robot. The program I created made the robot detect objects and move away. The second day's fun and creativity involved learning of Kodu, which is a computer programming app. We used blocks to build programs and create games. On the third and fourth day we learned about medicine and how to diagnose diseases based on the symptoms. The instructors also taught us about ADHD, Alzheimer's and concussions. On the fifth we went to a museum called The Drexel University Of Natural Sciences. We visited the dinosaur exhibit and saw many different fossils and artifacts. Overall, the main idea of this forum was to let us explore in different STEM careers and enrich our experiences in STEM pathways. It was really enjoyable, informative and worth attending." – Thanks, Ishaan Dey, Grade 8, Clinton Township Middle School "A gypsy fire is on the hearth, Sign of the carnival of mirth; Through the dun fields and from the glade Flash merry folk in masquerade, For this is Hallowe'en!" ~ Author unknown
