CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW)
welcomes two new board members, Edith "Edie" Grauer and Amy Shimalla,
Esq., who have joined the organization to share their experience, expertise
and passion for the mission to serve more abused and neglected children
and to help raise community awareness of the needs of children living in
foster care. Grauer works with Homesharing in Bridgewater and Shimalla is a family
law attorney with Shimalla, Wechsler, Lepp and D'Onofrio, LLP in Warren.
Annually, there are more than 500 abused or neglected children in the tri-
counties' court and welfare system. CASA SHaW recruits and trains community
volunteers to work one-on-one with these children, advocating for their best interests.
Essentially, CASA volunteers "speak up" for these children in the court and child welfare
systems, making sure they are safe and well-cared for, are getting the services they
need, and are placed in a permanent, safe, and nurturing home as quickly as possible.
A training class for new advocates is set to begin September 15.
These two new Trustees join twelve other caring community members who
are also donating their time to ensure the sustainability and accountability
of CASA SHaW. "We are so pleased to welcome two new enthusiastic board
members," says Alice Condo, CASA SHaW's Board President. "Amy's interest
in outreach and her background in family law will bring the story of the children
we serve to new venues. Edie embraced our mission immediately, independently
fundraising and assisting at events. It is exciting to see that passion! We hope to bring
on new board members, committee members and volunteer advocates
to expand our program in order to serve all of the abused and neglected
children in our community."
CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties is part of a statewide
network of community-based, non-profit programs that recruit, screen,
train and supervise volunteers to "Speak Up for a Child" removed from
home due to abuse or neglect. CASA is the only program in New Jersey that uses
trained volunteers to work one-on-one with children, ensuring that each one gets the
services needed and achieves permanency in a safe, nurturing home. Visit www.
casashaw.org or call 908/689-5515 for more information about CASA of
Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties. You can also send inquiries
