Saturday, May 14 from 9:00 am - noon will be our Spring Cemetery Clean-Up Day and Saturday, June 11 from 10:00 am - noon will be a special, combined ceremony of our Annual Flag Disposal along with the recognition of our recent Restoration Project. (Rain date for the Spring Clean-Up is Saturday, May 21). A very successful restoration project was made at the cemetery in October of 2015, made possible by $2,365 in donations to a fund created by the family of past member and past chapter regent, the late Phyllis R. Black, as well as $550 from the NJDAR State Violet Fund and a matching grant of $2,100 from the Special Grants Committee of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. We are now anxious to have the public join us in a final cleaning before the recognition ceremony! The Restoration Project, organized by Cemetery Committee Co-Chairs Ann Rotunno and Beverly Smith (and led by Monuments Conservator, Jonathan Appell of West Hartford, Connecticut) consisted of an enthusiastic group of 26 volunteers – chapter members, HODAR's ("husbands of" DAR members), members of the Sons of the Revolution and cadets from the NJ-107 Del-Val Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. All of these dedicated people came together to preserve the history of the final resting place of nine Revolutionary War veterans and numerous settlers of Hunterdon County. The gravel used was generously donated by the fine folks at DeMarco Brothers. Chris Pilecki of Four Season Greenery arranged and donated the services of a dump truck to deliver the gravel to the cemetery and owner of Hunterdon Paint, Jack Farrant, provided the materials for restoring our cannon. A sincere thank-you to all three companies. For more information about the The Old White House ~ Gen. Frelinghuysen ~ Col.
