Winter weather can mean sedentary kids. Not at The Work-Family
Connection's Before and After School Enrichment Programs, where
students are participating in a Winter Fun Run Club, with a goal to walk
across America! This club incorporates math, science and geographic
studies, promotes life-long positive habits and combats childhood obesity.
The core values of having fun, being with friends and a sense of belonging
are what kids want out of any activity. Accordingly, WFC has always
incorporated a broad spectrum indoor fitness curriculum with yoga, stretching and
non-competitive indoor games complete with healthy snacks and milestone prizes.
Focusing on community service, students have used creativity and
kindness to help those less fortunate. From collecting food donations for House
of Love Soup Kitchen (enough food to give out three bags of groceries to each family
in need!) to sharing the warmth of their hearts and hands by hand sewing a beautiful
wool quilt for a homeless family!
In WFC's nutrition enrichment units, students make smoothies including
spinach and kale, create yogurt "Melted Snowmen", make falafel waffles
and pumpkin mousse. Annual "Souper Bowl Parties", a long standing WFC
tradition, mean children prepare a big pot of Minestrone soup to share with their
families. Keeping parents involved by hosting parent nights like the New Year
celebration painting party, talent shows, game nights and fashion shows helps to
bridge the gap between school, work and home life. Find out more about our
