Most of us during some time in our lives have had our feet ache or be painful. It could be from overuse or improper shoes or just from standing too much. These minor aches and pains should go away after a week, usually by resting, wearing proper shoes or taking an anti-inflammatory or Tylenol. But what happens if these pains or aches don't go away? What do you do? There are many people who ignore the problem, just let it get worse and end up doing more harm than good. Some individuals take it upon themselves to try fixing everything themselves, listening to old wives tales and using every home remedy that's in their cabinet. I'm sure that many of you have tried these things yourself. One example is to soak your feet in very hot water – this isn't recommended. The hot water can burn your feet, cause scarring and cause your feet to swell up even more. If you've injured your foot or have some sort of inflammation, I recommend using ice for the first 24-48 hours to prevent swelling. Once swelling has begun, I recommend you use moist heat or soak your feet in warm water, not hot water. Hotter is not better. For many years people have told me that they believe soaking their feet in hotter water will make their feet better, faster. This isn't true. This is just one example of home remedies that people are not using correctly and are inadvertently causing more harm. A simple sprained ankle can turn into a serious burn or infection. The money they think they saved by not going to a doctor ends up costing them thousands of dollars, in addition to missing work for possibly weeks or months. My recommendation is if you have a foot injury, infection, or ingrown toenail, please have it seen by a local podiatrist. Call my office today at: 908.236.6999 and have relief tomorrow! Born Daniel Ndamwizeye, Daniel Trust is a Rwandan Genocide survivor and a youth motivational speaker based in Bridgeport, Connecticut. At the age of 5, Daniel witnessed his mother get murdered and lost his father and two sisters during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. By the grace of God, his life was spared and he survived the Rwandan Genocide, a war that killed more than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus. He immigrated to the US at age 15 and quickly learned how to speak English, graduating with high honors from high school in 2008. In 2010 he obtained his American Citizenship, then graduated with a business management degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 2013. In his lectures at high schools and colleges across the nation, Daniel says he was saved for a reason, and has a purpose on this earth. Daniel founded The Daniel Trust Foundation in 2009 with a focus on recognizing and rewarding students from all backgrounds who promote social causes in their communities. Teachers who go above and beyond to help their students succeed in school and in their personal lives are also rewarded. Find out more at: www.danieltrust.com/BookDanielTrust.html.
