Continuing research points to a decreased risk in heart disease and diabetes with a lower meat diet. The key to a healthy vegetarian diet is to be aware of your nutritional needs and plan accordingly. • Lacto-Vegetarians exclude meat/poultry/fish and eggs but include dairy. • Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians exclude meat/poultry/fish but include eggs and dairy. • Ovo-Vegetarians exclude meat/poultry/fish and diary but include eggs. • Vegans exclude all meats/poultry/fish, eggs and dairy. • Flexitarians have primarily a plant based diet but will include meats/poultry/ fish, eggs and dairy on occasion. • Pescatarians include fish/seafood in their diets. If you need help creating a diet that's right for you, speak with your physician and a registered dietitian for assistance.
