The Office Mill, LLC is the first coworking space in Hunterdon County and opened in downtown Clinton in May. The Office Mill wants to give people an opportunity to experience the benefits of coworking by offering a free trial day to anyone interested. "We are very excited that we already have members in just our first week of business, and we look forward to adding to our community," said co-founder Lisa Fielding. Coworking spaces offer a place for small business owners, entrepreneurs and mobile employees to sit down and get work done with high speed internet, free coffee and a community of like-minded professionals. "Coworking spaces are for people who want to get out of their home offices and for people who are finding that coffee houses just aren't cutting it anymore," said founder Winnie Phelan Scuteri. New coworking spaces are popping up all over the country and the trend shows no signs of stopping. It's a reflection of the rise of home-based workers and the new mobile workforce. According to Inc. Magazine, the very first US based coworking space opened in 2005. That number sky rocketed to 781 coworking spaces across the US by 2014 and continues to grow. Coworking spaces offer the services of a fully equipped office without the long term commitment and startup expenses of leased office space. Other benefits include the flexibility and affordability of part time office use, networking, education and social events. Located right on Main Street in Clinton, The Office Mill offers views of the historic Red Mill Museum and waterfall from a historic building outfitted with contemporary furnishings. Founder Winnie Phelan Scuteri was enamored with the idea of opening a coworking space in Clinton after working at a similar coworking space in New York City. "I thought it was a great concept and decided to create one in Clinton. Why spend hours commuting to New York every day?" Winnie presented the idea to her friend Lisa Fielding, a Public Relations and Branding professional who works with small businesses, The New Jersey Hall of Fame and the Johnson & Johnson Women's Leadership Initiative. Lisa enthusiastically began helping Winnie formulate a plan. Within 24 hours, Lisa was hooked and asked to be a part of the venture. "As a consultant, working from a home based office can be isolating; coworking provides the ideal solution," Fielding said. The Office Mill offers three distinct and separate work spaces. A large quiet room with ten work stations, a more collaborative room with shared table space and a coffee bar and a separate conference room with a flat screen and seating for ten available for members and the general public. Memberships start as low as $75 per month with no long term commitment. The Office Mill will also hold classes and events to help members grow their business, network and socialize. "The important thing for me is that The Office Mill contributes to helping small businesses grow and succeed," says Phelan Scuteri.
