As part of their Education Series, the Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center in Clinton will offer Ask the Expert: Advances in Breast Cancer and Personalized Medicine on Monday, June 1 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This program will be led by Waqas Rehman, MD, Medical Oncologist and Hematologist at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center. Bring your questions to learn about a hot topic in cancer care. Personalized medicine is used to determine a persons' genetic makeup, including determining the chances that a person will develop cancer and selecting screening strategies to lower the risk. In addition, personalized medicine can be used to determine the appropriate form of treatment. Most patients receive similar treatments for a specific type and stage of cancer. However, those treatments do not work for all of the patients. Researchers have found that the genetic differences in people and their tumors explained many of these different responses to treatment. Using personalized medicine, physicians can match patients with treatments that are more likely to be effective. In addition, attendees will learn about advances in breast cancer care and have the opportunity to ask the expert. This program is free and participants will receive a guest pass to be used at the Hunterdon Health and Wellness Centers.
