The 34-member Trainmasters Club was the first youth-led model railroad club in the State when it formed in 2000 with just six kids and Doug Pitney as its leader. Today, Trainmasters is one of the largest 4-H clubs in the County! Sometimes potential members are wait- listed for a year or longer, as they prove their dedication to the club by attending shows and meetings. The club has an expansive collection of O-scale trains, including kid favorites like THOMAS & FRIENDS and THE POLAR EXPRESS and a collection of rare and classic trains running at the show. Club members will lead How to Build A Model Railroad tutorials at the show, designed for other youth model railroaders in attendance. There will also be interactive play activities set up for younger children. Mark your calendars for June 6 and 7 and come celebrate the Club's 15th Anniversary! The first 15 children through the door each day receive a prize – plan to be there early! Homemade snacks and drinks available all day for purchase. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children under 12. Proceeds go to support the Trainmasters' College Fund and club activities. Directions to the center are available at: http://somerset.njaes.rutgers.edu/directions. For additional information, contact the Somerset County 4-H office at: 908.526.6644. The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Somerset County, an off-campus division of Rutgers University.
