1 4 F e b r u a r y 2 0 1 5 www.ClintonTwpNewsletter.com Lately I've seen a lot of articles posted to various websites that claim to contain tips for saving money in Disney. The problem is that you follow the link and land on an article that gives you generic ideas and non-specific cost saving tips. (I'm looking at you, Yahoo!) Well, I've decided to GET SPECIFIC and give you some activities that can be fun for the whole family for those days when you need a break from the park! 1. My favorite –Watch the Wishes Fireworks from the beach of the Polynesian Resort! This little gem is responsible for some of my favorite fireworks memories. Bring a blanket, hang in the comfy chairs, or snuggle together in a hammock! Bonus: some nights the fireworks are followed by a water parade! Not staying at the Polynesian? Don't worry, you can take a boat ride from Magic Kingdom or do a bus transfer from any park. 2. Find your wild side – Check out the animals at the Animal Kingdom Lodge! There are so many viewing platforms at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the best part is that there are cast members around to answer questions about the animals (check on hours with the resort). If it's nighttime, why not relax in front of the fire and play games or pick up a s'mores kit in the gift shop? 3. Take in a movie – Movies Under the Stars at Fort Wilderness Re- sort! Enjoy a sing-along and complimentary, family-friendly movie. The festivi- ties start at the campfire area near the Meadow Trading Post with a sing-along featuring Chip and Dale. Then, stick around for the movie on a large outdoor screen, but don't forget to pick up snacks or marshmallows at the resort gift shop! 4. Relax and take in the views–Port Orleans Riverside. At the River- side's Magnolia Bend section, behind the Acadian House, you can find a lovely Butterfly Garden with gorgeous views. Not exciting enough? Why not play a rousing game of cricket or spend some time in the playground on Ol' Man Island! 5. For the young at heart–Watch the Wishes Fireworks from the top of the Top of the World Lounge! Plan a nice dinner or simply hang out in the lounge area for a great view of the fireworks and the rest of the Disney skyline. The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick–Hunterdon County (FSSP) an- nounced their March lineup to commemorate Saint Patrick's Day. Starting on March 7 at the Grand Colonial in Hampton, 250 Irishmen and Irishwomen will gather to dine, dance recognize the Irishman of the Year and raise funds to help County families in need. According to Friendly Sons President Shaun Connolly "the Irishman of the Year recognizes an Irishman who has exemplified the Friendly Sons of St Patrick founding principles; has assisted the community at large; and has provided a shining example which all Irish Americans can point to with great pride." The evening also features Irish dancing to the music of Danny And The Boys, world class Irish step dancers and a traditional Irish American dinner. The following week, on Sunday March 15 at 3:00 pm, the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick host the 2nd Annual Hunterdon County St Patrick's Day Parade through the Town of Clinton. According to Parade Chairman Rich Hall, the parade will highlight Irish American culture and include lots of music, dance and fascinating attractions. The pipe and drum bands will be a highlight, along with the world class Irish dancers, musicians, singers, dogs and much more. Major parade sponsors include: The Provident Bank, Bill Healy Designs, CenturyLink, The Clinton Guild and Montrose Molders. High profile sponsorship positions are still available. According to the group's President Connolly "We raise and donate tens of thousands of dollars to families in need but that is only part of why we exist. Our mission has always included promoting and preserv- ing Irish American culture through activities like this parade." The parade will be followed by a celebration at the Clinton Fire House, including Irish American food and drink. S T o p p i N G T H E " b u S y - m i N d H A b i T " By Lyn Siegel MSW, MPH, LCSW The truth is our minds are way too busy! Our minds are racing constantly, and we are often switching our attention back and forth between different activities and tasks. This can be distracting and tiring and, as a result of our constant busyness, we are likely to accomplish less and also create more anxiety for ourselves. How can we stop the "busy mind habit" so that we can clear a calm mental space to be able to accomplish what we really need to do without stress? 1. The first step is to simply be aware that you are multi-tasking and dividing your attention. When you find that you mind is scattered and disor- ganized and you aren't accomplishing much, then stop in your tracks and dump your mind's contents onto paper and prioritize your tasks. Then slow down and tackle tasks one at a time. 2. Walk out your stress with a brief walk and calm your busy mind by noticing the beauty around you. Say to yourself as you are walking, "I want to free my mind of all thoughts, feelings and images." 3. Stop the habit of dividing your attention between watching televi- sion or listening to music and doing something else. 4. Take a few deep breaths to free your mind up and find clarity. 5. Meditate for four or five minutes to help clear your mind. Just fo- cus your eyes downward and in front of you with your eyes partially closed.
