The Hunterdon Mohawks Lacrosse Club continues to witness signifi- cant growth, making us the largest lacrosse program serving sending districts of North Hunterdon High School, and one of the largest youth organizations in Hunterdon County. The purpose of the Mohawk program is to introduce, develop and instruct boys and girls in the game of lacrosse, so that they develop a life-long love for this sport. Our experienced coaches teach players how to work hard, to become fundamentally sound and to learn to love playing this game. We offer a Junior Mohawk program, designed for boys and girls, kin- dergarten through second grade. Our boys' and girls' programs offer teams from third to eighth grade. Among our coaches we have a former Division 1 coach, Level 1 Certified coaches and former collegiate players. When youth players learn to love the game of lacrosse and have a desire to play at a higher level we introduce, through our partnerships with "select" lacrosse clubs, higher level opportunities to help them improve their game. Exposing our youth players to other styles of coaching, helping them to become well-rounded players as they prepare to play in high school. The philosophy of the Mohawks has been incredibly successful as wit- nessed by the championships won by both the boys' and girls' teams at North Hunterdon High School. Many of the boys on North's team are a product of our Mohawk program, and nearly all of the girls on the girls' team are alumni of our Mohawk program! To register, please visit our new website: www. Go Mohawks! n e w t e s t i n G m e t h o D f o r P e r i P h e r a l n e u r o P a t h y By Howard J. Tzorfas D.P.M. Peripheral neuropathy, a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet. Affected persons may experience symptoms which range from burning and tingling to coolness and numbness. This form of neuropathy usually occurs second- ary to diseases such as diabetes, but can also occur without associated ailment. In order to properly treat the peripheral neuropathy, there must be proper testing to determine the extent of the nerve damage. It used to be that you would have to go to a neurologist to have an EMG or electromyogram to have needles placed in different parts of your foot or leg to determine the extent of your neuropathy. Now there's a new test available that can be easily performed in my office. It involves (using local anesthesia) taking a small piece of skin from the outside edge of both your legs through the use of a small punch biopsy. The test, called "Epidermal Nerve Fiber Density Analysis," is quickly becoming recognized as the gold-standard among clinicians when assessing for the pres- ence, and the degree, of small fiber peripheral neuropathy. Your skin sample will be sent to a laboratory and the results will come back in 2-3 weeks. I'll discuss the results with you and then explain the treatment options. Many times high doses of dietary supplements can be helpful to diminish the symptoms of neuropathy and improve nerve health. If you're suffering from any kind of foot condi- tion, call my office today at: 908.236.6999 and have relief tomorrow! For more information, please visit our website at: www.DrTzorfas.com.
