ABC's, 1-2-3, and red, blue, orange! The preschoolers have quickly settled into a routine and are off to a great start this school year at Immaculate Conception School in Annandale. The classrooms are filled with singing, laughter, crafts, creative movement and, of course, lots of learning. ICS offers three early education programs: a three year old class, a four year old class and a transitional kindergarten for the older four year old and/or young five year old child. Each class is assigned a certi- fied classroom teacher and one teacher assistant. The pre-school programs at ICS provide a loving and nurturing environment supporting developmentally appropriate practices while encouraging academic excellence with attention to individual readiness. The classrooms are designed to offer the comforts of home and are equipped with a variety of enriching learning materials, supplies and technology tools. OSMO, a new devise for the iPad, will be introduced to the classrooms this year. OSMO uses Reflective Artificial Intelligence technology to give the iPad the ability to integrate physical objects into educational games in real time. The pre-school at ICS is faith-based and offers many integrated opportunities encouraging a strong religion foundation in a spiritually caring environment. ICS parent Maureen Crowley comments; "My son Brendan had a great pre-k experience at ICS. He grew so much emotionally, academically and spiritually. The program integrated learning in the classroom and a lot of fun field trips as an extension to their learning. I couldn't say enough about the expertise and true passion Mrs. Fortunato has for each child." Immaculate Conception School, a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, seeks to foster in each student spiritual growth, academic excellence and moral Integrity. A few highlights on the fall agenda include apple picking at Melick's Farm for the 4 year old pre-k classes, the American Girl Doll Fashion Show, and the school musical, A Christmas Carol.
