Kindness. Love. These are all things that we expect to find in our families. Sadly, not every child in our area experi- ences these aspects of family life. When home is no longer a safe place to be, these children sometimes end up in the foster care system. That is where Court Appointed Special Advocates – CASA – comes in. The organization trains community volunteers to act as advocates in the court system for these children, making best interest recommendations on their behalf and helping them get through what is inarguably one of the most difficult things they have experienced in their young lives. In support of this mission, CASA SHaW is holding its 6th Annual CASAblanca Casino Night on Friday, April 25 at 7:00pm at the Basking Ridge Country Club in Basking Ridge NJ. All proceeds benefit the mission of CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW). Tickets are $95. The evening includes light supper fare, 1-hr open bar (cash bar after), casino games, a silent auction, a wine tasting and prizes. Those interested in more information about the organization, the event, or tickets may call the CASA SHaW office at 908-689-5515. Tickets can also be ordered via the CASA SHaW website at www.casashaw.org. Sponsorships are also still available. Many thanks to Hero sponsors John Gannon, CPA and J&J IT Services as well as Silver sponsors Abel Leasing and the PeopleCare Center for their support of this event. CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties is part of a Statewide network of community-based, non-profit programs that recruit, screen, train and supervise volunteers to "Speak Up for a Child" removed from home due to abuse or neglect. CASA is the only program in New Jersey that uses trained volunteers to work one-on-one with children, ensuring that each one gets the services needed and achieves permanency in a safe, nurturing home. Windows XP has been around for 12 years and Microsoft has come out with 3 operating systems since then, Vista, 7, and 8. As with many things that are 12 plus years they get replaced, cars, clothes and cell phones. What does this mean to you if you are still using XP. Many people have become attached to programs that will only work on XP. That's okay. You can continue to use XP, just not on the internet, especially if you are shopping online, banking online and using email. You will not have the latest security downloads from Microsoft to protect you. So if you would like to continue to use XP for games, entertainment and other programs that will not work on the newer operating sys- tems, that's okay. We have customers who become attached to programs that they cherish, for example, a teacher who uses a DOS program to help her Second graders learn how to read. She has been helping her students for over 20 years with this program. It's okay to continue using that, for that purpose. We at the Help Desk Computer Center are here to help and assist you with your computing needs. Many people have found that Windows 7 isn't that dissimilar to XP. Over time, many have come to learn and enjoy 7. For those that have a computer with Windows 8, and are feeling frustrated without the "Start" button, we can help you overcome the "Start" button issue. We can get you your "Start" button back! Please–after April 8–STOP using Windows XP on the internet, for any type of financial transaction. Thank you and happy surfing.
