Read Every Day! Spend at least 20–30 minutes reading books, magazines, comics, or listening to audiobooks to get minds back into "school mode." Organize School Supplies – Label notebooks, sharpen pencils, fill pencil cases, and arrange backpacks so everything is ready to go. Set Up a Homework Space – Create a comfortable, well-lit area stocked with paper, pencils, and other supplies for studying and completing assignments. Review Basic Skills – Practice a little math, handwriting, spelling, or educational games to refresh skills without making it feel like school. Practice Morning Routines – Try a few "school mornings" by getting dressed, eating breakfast, and being ready by a set time. Choose and Prepare Clothes – Pick out favorite outfits, check that shoes still fit, and lay out clothing for the first few days. Talk About Goals for the New School Year – Children can think about what they hope to learn, activities they want to try, or ways they'd like to grow as students and friends. Visit the school and playground on August 24! If possible, walk around the school grounds, find classrooms, or play on the playground to build familiarity and confidence. Create a Family Calendar – Mark important dates such as the first day of school, holidays, sports practices, birthdays, and special events. Practice Independence Skills – Review skills such as tying shoes, opening lunch containers, packing backpacks, managing assignments, and using planners or folders. Make Time for Fun and Relaxation! Enjoy a picnic, bike ride, movie night, or another favorite family activity to end the summer on a happy, relaxed note before the busy school year begins. These preparations can help children feel organized, confident, and excited as they head into a new school year. Save the Date! The first day of school for students for the 2026-2027 school year is Thursday, August 27. Students will be able to do a walk the schedule/walk the building on August 24, as well as kindergarten bus rides. IMPORTANT DATES TO KEEP IN MIND: August 24: Walk the schedule/find your classroom August 27: First Day of School! Early Dismissal August 28: Early Dismissal August 29: Regular Dismissal
