James Gilmartin was the recipient of the fifth Annual Ehmann History
Award presented by the Tewksbury Historical Society in memory of Elsie
Ehmann at the Seventh Grade Award Ceremony on June 17. It is given to a
seventh-grade student at the Old Turnpike School, Tewksbury, in recognition of his
curiosity, passion, strong interest in and dedication to studying New Jersey and local
history. The Award was presented by Melissa Ehmann, daughter of Elsie Ehmann,
at the Old Turnpike School's Annual Award Ceremony.
James, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Gilmartin of Tewksbury
Township, has a deep love of history. He enjoys exploring local historical sites
with his grandfather Steve Griggs, especially those with connections to his mother's
family who have been in the New Jersey and New York area since the early 1600's.
James has a particular interest in old local buildings, stone grist mills, and how New
Jersey has changed over the years. On his father's side, he is a proud Native American
and member of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe in Massachusetts. During the summers,
he immerses himself in traditional tribal activities, such as fishing on Cape Cod. He
is excited to learn more about local history in school next year.
The award is given annually to a student selected by the social studies
teachers who most exemplifies the criteria established. It consists of a
monetary check and a small gift. James's name will be engraved on two plaques:
one displayed at the school and one at the Tewksbury Historical Society's Carriage
House on James Street in Oldwick. It is given in memory of Elsie Ehmann, a longtime
resident and avid volunteer in Tewksbury, who passed away in 2021. She was a Charter
Member of the Society and served as its Treasurer for twenty-five years. Elsie sought
and encouraged ways to strengthen the connection between the Tewksbury Historical
Society and the township residents, encouraging learning by both.
The Tewksbury Historical Society is a 501(c)3 Corporation organized
for the purpose of furthering research into, and the preservation and
dissemination of, the history of the Township of Tewksbury. The Society
requests donations of documents, records and small artifacts related to Tewksbury's
history for its archives.

Annandale Hose Company #1, Clinton Township's
all-volunteer Fire Department, will be hosting a
25 Year Anniversary Ceremony to remember and honor our
Hunterdon County neighbors, as well as all the other victims
of the September 11th, 2001 Terror Attacks. The Ceremony will take
place at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 11th, 2026 at AHCO's
Station 1, 68 Beaver Avenue, Annandale. All members of the
