1 7 a u g u s t 2 0 2 6 w o m e n ' s F o r u m : s h a r i n g w i s d o m Dear Ladies, There's something so captivating about the long and languid days of summer that can make our minds wander into a state of rose-colored reminiscing. Was it that long ago, when time seemed to slow down precisely during the summer months and all the cares of life and the world could be ignored, until that dreaded month of September came along? I'm thinking about our high school years of endless curiosity, when discovery was around every corner. So many possibilities for good and for not so good! For many of us, during those years the real future was starting to creep into our consciousness. Scary realities like the College Boards and graduation were looming. The time was coming when we would be left untethered to make big choices that would likely affect the future of our lives. Looking back it feels as if we were so vulnerable. However, here in the US, as education was available to us at every level, public or private, it brought along exposure to great writing and thinking with some great wisdom attached. Thus, eventually (for some sooner than later) maturity would come our way... This wonderful year of America 250 we have witnessed and relearned our Revolutionary history through lectures, documentaries and visits to museums and sites celebrating our country's heroes and exceptional artists. This August we'll begin a look back at other American icons which were instrumental in the maturing of our nation. Through the brilliant writing and wisdom of Harper Lee and her Pulitzer Prize winning novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, we'll continue this enlightening look at our evolution. At our August luncheon gathering we'll screen the movie and then be captivated by our very own WF literary guide, Nancy Harms as she shares her insights into the novel/film and its author to us. Those of us who have witnessed Nancy's expertise know that she brings a narrative to life with the history and backstory of the times and the people fundamental to its creation. I hope you've decided to read the book. I am doing so, and experiencing the story again decades later with a lifetime of perspective – is astonishing! LITERARY LUNCHEON: Thursday, August 13 at noon.
