The Clinton Township Police, Investigative Division has
received a number of reports of scammers victimizing our
residents and businesses. While the scams can vary, our
detectives have noticed some common threads and would like
to pass along some tips to help you avoid becoming the next
victim…please share with anyone in your life who may be a
target! Whether it's a telephone call, text message, email or
a letter, here are some red flags:
▲ If anyone claiming to be a government official or member of
a law enforcement agency is asking for money via phone call
or text, it's a scam.
▲ If anyone asks you to buy gold bars to pay a fine or satisfy a
warrant, etc, it's a scam.
▲ If anyone contacts you via phone about warrants or fines and
threatens immediate arrest for non-payment, that's a scam.
▲ Scammers will rush you to take action while attempting to
keep you on the phone and prevent you from calling anyone
else… it's a scam.
▲ If anyone asks you to pay fines, etc, using gold bars, gift
cards, bitcoin, coinbase, etc, it's a scam.
This isn't an exhaustive list, there are a variety of scams. bottom
line, if you get any suspicious phone calls, texts, emails, or
letters, call the Clinton Township Police… we are here to help!
