As we continue our way through the calendar of this most auspicious anniversary year, we come to a man who was/is truly larger than life, Founding Father turned "Rock Star," Alexander Hamilton. Immortalized by his brilliant role in American History, this extraordinary and complicated man has now gone on to celebrity A-list status with a record breaking telling of his story on Broadway to the tune of hip-hop and the imagination of wunderkind Lin Manuel Miranda (who started writing his first B'way hit In the Heights at age 19). "Broadway Hamilton's" story has reached a demographic who had little or no interest in our earliest days as a nation – the kids! Hearing my grandkids rapping through songs from the musical opened opportunities for conversation not there before. Bravo!! to Lin Manuel for this and to our "cool" Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton! Knowing how much we at WF have come to enjoy accounts of the exceptional men and women of history, our Founding Father Hamilton's remarkable saga tells us of one man's potential for greatness against all odds - and how he got there. On April 9 we take up our journey back in time with a documentary of his life from its unusual start to its bizarre and untimely end and all the wonder in between. HAMILTON LUNCHEON: Thursday April 9 at noon. Dillon Library Bedminster NJ. Admission is $20. Register here: http:// engagedpatrons.org/EventsExtended.cfm?SiteID=3205&EventID=583193 And now, on to Broadway. The musical is breathtaking. Just listening to the vibrant poetry of the rap through which the story is told is fascinating. Along with being chosen by General George Washington to be his aide-de-camp in the Revolutionary War, another of the high points of Hamilton's career was his marriage to Eliza Schuyler, thereby gaining entry into the socially prominent Schuyler family. For our program on April 23, popular lecturer Rick Feingold will tell the Hamilton & Schuyler Sisters story through the words and music of the play. SCHUYLER SISTERS LUNCHEON: Thursday April 23 at noon. Dillon Library, Bedminster NJ. Admission 20. Register here: http://engagedpatrons.org/ EventsExtended.cfm?SiteID=3205&EventID=583195 And...check out events in your communities honoring our Nation's history at: www.TewksburyHhistory.net and www.SomersetHillsHhistoricalSociety. org (thank you Joan Umholtz and Lorrie Lane!). Upcoming dates for WF: May 7 & 21, June 4 & 25. Think Spring, lovely ladies!! – Evelyn Breheney Glynn, Founder/Director Women's Forum ps. And, Why Hamilton? I look forward to your responses in April!
